Highly encouraged to sing from Miss Saigon.

Bring clearly marked sheet music IN THE CORRECT KEY (no CDs or tapes).
Accompanist will be provided but may not transpose.
Conflicts must be listed on your audition form.
They will be taken into consideration when casting.
We are prepared to re-cast the show should an actor be late or absent from scheduled rehearsals.

PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION
Casting "Miss Saigon" by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil, with lyrics by Boublil and Richard Maltby, Jr. based on Giacomo Puccini's classic opera, "Madame Butterfly." In the turmoil of the Vietnam War in the 1970's, an American soldier and a Vietnamese girl fall in love, only to be separated during the fall of Saigon. Their struggles to find each other over the ensuing years end in tragedy for her and a fighting chance for the child he never knew he had.

Each member will play multiple roles, including: Captain Schultz, Thai Club Owner, Assistant Commissar, Soldiers, Marines, Hustlers, Bar Girls, Vendors, Vietnamese Civilians, Embassy Workers; any vocal range.
Christopher Scott (Lead): Male, 20-30, All Ethnicities
A young, tormented American GI; he is in love with Kim, but after they are torn apart, finds solace in his new love for Ellen back in the US ; after three years of trying to get past his Vietnam experience and his shattered love, the news of a son born of Kim shakes his world apart; pop tenor, A2-B4
Kim (Lead): Female, 17-20, All Ethnicities
A 17-year-old Vietnamese girl from the country, Kim moves to Saigon and falls in love with Chris, an American Marine; she is young and naive, yet strong-willed; she would do anything for the good of her son, Tam; mezzo-soprano/belter, E3-E5.
The Engineer (Lead): Mail, 25-50, All Ethnicities
The half-French, half-Vietnamese owner of the Dreamland club in Saigon; he is a greasy wheeler-dealer who puts self-preservation above absolutely all else; high baritone, A2-Ab4.
John (Supporting): Male, 23-35, All Ethnicities
Chris's close friend and a fellow American Marine; in his work after the war, he locates Chris' three-year-old son, Tam, living with Kim in Bangkok; pop tenor, G#2
Thuy (Supporting); Male, 25-35, All Ethnicities
Kim's cousin, to whom she has been promised since she was 13; he is a stalwart and determined Vietnamese military leader who will stop at nothing to get Kim back for himself; pop tenor, C3-Bb4.
Ellen (Supporting): Female 20-30, All Ethnicities
The sensible, stable American woman that Chris fell in love with and married two years after returning from Vietnam; the news that Kim is still alive and bore Chris' son threatens to change her life forever, but she is determined to do what is best for her husband, his son, and her marriage; mezzo-soprano/belter, F#3-G5.
Gigi (Supporting): Female, 20-30, All Ethnicities
A Vietnamese bar girl who wins the contest and the title of "Miss Saigon;" while on the surface, she is a hardened stripper; her true dream is to be taken away by an American Marine to start a new life in America.
Mimi, Yvette, Yvonne (Supporting): Female, 18-25 All Ethnicities
Three roles; Vietnamese strippers/bar girls at the Dreamland club; any vocal range.
Tam (Supporting): Male or Female, 3-5, All Ethnicities
The Amerasian son of Chris and Kim (can be played by a girl); non-singing.
