We are seeking actors, singers, dancers, and resident company interns for the 2023 season. In order to remain accessible for all, Millbrook will be moving auditions to a virtual submission and virtual callback process for the summer season.

Please review the breakdown before submitting. This is a non-union summer stock contract with little room for negotiation. If you have questions before your submission, please reach out to

ABOUT US

Millbrook Playhouse is a 60 year old traditional summer stock theater located in Mill Hall, Clinton County, Pennsylvania. During our season, we produce four shows and one children’s musical on our RYAN MAINSTAGE, a 235 seat thrust theater, and four shows in the POORMAN CABARET, a 100 seat space with a small thrust stage.

The Millbrook Playhouse encourages all individuals of every experience to submit to our summer season. Note that age ranges and genders listed reflect those of the character, not of the actor we will cast. Please submit for all characters for which you feel you would be appropriate. Our diversity, equity, and inclusion pledge can be found at the bottom of this notice.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Please send links to all videos. Direct files and downloads are not accepted and will not be viewed.
When you are ready to submit, please email your headshot, resume, submission materials, and audition questionnaire (found at the end of this document) to
millbrookcasting@gmail.com along with your audition materials, and please note which track / roles you are submitting for. Submissions will be reviewed as quickly as possible, and you may be contacted to submit callback material. All casting decisions will be finalized by late April.

  • If you are submitting for Patsy Cline, please submit yourself singing from Patsy Cline’s canon of work

  • If you are submitting for a SINGLE SHOW please submit a cut in the style of the show for which you would like to be considered.

  • If you are submitting for the MAINSTAGE TRACK: Please submit two contrasting cuts in the style of Cinderella and Escape to Margaritaville, and please also send a dance/movement reel.

  • For the straight plays / Cabaret Track: A short monologue in the style of or from the shows. Please keep it to one minute.

  • Please feel free to send any supplementary material you would like our casting team to review.

  • Callbacks will be held virtually for this season.

  1. SINGLE SHOW: Please indicate under the show title the roles you are submitting for on the audition questionnaire. Selecting this indicates you are only interested in being considered for the show you have selected.

  2. MAINSTAGE TRACK: Actors auditioning for both Cinderella and Escape to Margaritaville. Please indicate you are submitting for the Mainstage Track, and indicate the roles you are submitting for on the audition questionnaire. Selecting this indicates you are submitting for both Cinderella and Escape to Margaritaville.

  3. CABARET TRACK: Actors auditioning for both Boeing, Boeing and The Roommate. Please indicate you are submitting for the Cabaret Track, and indicate the roles you are submitting for on the audition questionnaire. Selecting this indicates you are submitting for both Boeing Boeing and The Roommate

  4. RESIDENT COMPANY INTERNSHIP: Perfect for college students and early career professionals, our resident company actors will be cast in four shows: Cinderella, Escape to Margaritaville, Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus, Diamond Jubilee: Millbrook’s 60th Anniversary Concert. This is an eight week commitment from June 4 - July 30. Please indicate you are submitting for the RESIDENT COMPANY INTERNSHIP, and indicate the roles you are submitting for on the audition questionnaire.

ABOUT THE CONTRACT:

  • SINGLE SHOW / MAINSTAGE TRACK / CABARET TRACK: Performers are paid weekly and may need to only commit to one or two shows. Principal Roles – median pay $320 per week, contracts ranging from three to eight weeks, Supporting Roles – median pay $290 per week, contracts ranging three to eight weeks.

  • RESIDENT COMPANY INTERNSHIP: These six season actors will receive at least three professional development workshops as well as roles in four shows. Perfect for college students and early career professionals, our resident company actors will be cast in four shows: Cinderella, Escape to Margaritaville, Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus, Diamond Jubilee: Millbrook’s 60th Anniversary Concert. This is an eight week commitment from June 4 - July 30. This opportunity is ideal for an early-career actor enrolled in a theater training program. All roles are open for Resident Company Interns. This eight week commitment from June 4 - July 30 pays a $1800 stipend.

  • Housing provided for out-of-town actors: All accommodation is shared with others on staff, and frequently people must share a bedroom. The accommodations are often located in Lock Haven, PA, or the surrounding area. Usually, a 5-10 minute drive from the theater, exceptions pending housing availability.

  • Actors required to strike post show.

  • Actors will be asked to participate in the COURTYARD CABARET, a saturday night program through the month of July where post performance, actors will present an informal themed cabaret to patrons.

  • Bus and/or transportation reimbursement to and from Millbrook Playhouse provided for people traveling from the tri-state area (NY, PA, OH). .

  • On-site round trip transportation provided to and from the housing to the theater on days worked.

  • Dinner is provided on all working days. (Catered from local restaurants.)

A CLOSER WALK WITH PATSY CLINE

Rehearsal May 21 - June 1; Runs June 2 - June 11

Patsy Cline: Seeking a performer that encapsulates Patsy Cline’s spirit, with a strong vocal resemblance to the country singer.

DJ Little Big Man, et al: Seeking a versatile performer that can navigate several vignette roles through the piece.

CINDERELLA:

Rehearsals June 4 - June 15; Runs June 16 - July 2

ELLA (Cinderella) (Female, 20s, Soprano, Any Ethnicity) Kind hearted beauty with an infectious generosity of spirit. Though she has been flying under the radar she comes fully into herself as an articulate dynamic woman with a great deal to say. Traditional musical theater soprano.

TOPHER (Male, 20s – early 30s, Baritone, Any Ethnicity) The prince of the kingdom leads with heroic bravado but deeply naïve and not always quick on the draw. In search of his purpose. His kindhearted nature spills into an endearing goofiness at times. Light comedic touch is essential. Soaring, rich musical theater baritone to G.

MADAME (Female, Late 30s – 50s, Mezzo-Soprano, Any Ethnicity) Ella’s selfish stepmother. A vain and tyrannical climber. Deeply concerned with status and image and entirely dismissive of her stepdaughter. Comic timing essential. Traditional musical theater character voice.

GABRIELLE (Female, 20s – 30s, Mezzo-Soprano, Any Ethnicity) Ella’s stepsister and daughter of Madame. Begins aligned with her materialistic mother and sister but her kindness and thoughtful nature emerge as she is affected by Ella and love interest John-Michel. Perhaps a bit quirky and cut from a different mold than the social climbers around her. Comic timing is essential. Strong and expressive traditional musical theater voice.

CHARLOTTE (Female, 20s – 30s, Mezzo-Soprano, Any Ethnicity) Ella’s stepsister and daughter of Madame. Deeply self-involved, attention seeker. Loud, brash and delights in being cocky. Lacks self-awareness and often the last one in on the joke. Excellent comic timing required. Traditional musical theater character belt to F.

MARIE (Female, 20s – 60s, Soprano, Any Ethnicity) First presents as a bag lady but is revealed as Ella’s fairy godmother in disguise. Warm with a spark of wackiness she lifts the magic in the show and highlights what is possible! Soaring traditional musical theater soprano to G.

JEAN MICHEL (Male, 20s – 30s, Any Ethnicity) An enthusiastic revolutionary determined to make a difference. Energized and on his way to becoming a leader. Great comic timing. Traditional musical theater voice.

SEBASTIAN (Male, 20s – 60s, Any Ethnicity) Topher’s Lord Chancellor. He actively shields the Prince from what is occurring in his kingdom and revels in maintaining his own power. Disregarding villagers in need he is primarily concerned with preserving the wealthy and the reach of his power. Fantastic comic timing essential. Traditional musical theater character voice.

LORD PINKELTON (Male, 20s – 50s, Tenor, Any Ethnicity) Sebastian’s second-in- command and the herald for all balls and events. Announces royal balls, banquets and even the weather. Excellent comic timing is essential. Traditional musical theater tenor.

ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE:

Rehearsals June 20 - July 6; Runs July 7 - July 23

TULLY (Male, 20s – early 30s) - Smooth-talking, self-deprecating playboy. He's completely content with the life he's chosen as the singer/ bartender at a tropical resort, until he meets Rachel, a vacationer who upends his heart. Guitar skills are useful. Vocal Range: B2-C5

RACHEL (Female, 20s – early 30s)- Fully committed to her job and helping the world. Willing to put in as many hours of hard work as it takes and expects everyone else to do the same. Suspicious of fools and operators, Rachel is not easily distracted from her life plan. Vocal Range: A3-F#5

TAMMY (Female 20s – early 30s)- Loyal friend to Rachel. Sees the best in people and has a zest for life that is often squelched by her fiance, Chad. Her low self-esteem manifests itself as denial in her own life. Vocal Range: B3-F5

BRICK (Male, 20s – early 30s)- The Island bartender. Has a big heart and a good friend to Tully. Not the brightest bulb, but sensitive and thoughtful. Vocal Range: A2-C5

MARLEY (Female, late 30’s to 60’s)- No-nonsense and assertive with an island accent. She runs the resort and keeps everyone in check, but clearly cares about her employees, her customers, and J.D., an older island denizen. Great singer. Vocal Range: G#3-G#5

J.D. (Male, 40’s to 60’s) - A funny, endearing man who always has a parrot on his shoulder. He's losing his vision and his hearing, but won't acknowledge it. A good-natured drunkard, he's always writing his memoirs on bar napkins and, as it turns out, he's lived a full life. Vocal Range: G2-D4

LOOKING OVER THE PRESIDENT’S SHOULDER:

Rehearsals May 28 - June 8; Runs June 9 - June 19

Alonzo Fields: We are seeking a specifically black male actor to appropriately reflect the experience of Alonzo Fields -

(40’s to 60’s) The grandson of a freed slave who grew up in an all-black town in southern Indiana, Fields is forced by the Depression to give up his dreams of becoming an opera singer and accept the job at the White House where he quickly was appointed Chief Butler. Set on the eve of his last day on the job, Fields reflects on his 21 years of service to his country with humor and pride. He was a man with a story to tell and this tour-de-force for one actor gives Fields the chance to tell it. Salary can be negotiated.

Boeing Boeing:

Rehearsals July 1 - July 13; Runs July 14 - July 23


Bernard: An American playboy living in Paris, Bernard is happily engaged to three different women, none of whom know about the others.

Gloria: An American airline stewardess from New York City, Gloria is engaged to Bernard. She is a go-getter, sexy and works for TWA.

Gabriella: An Italian airline stewardess, Gabriella is also engaged to Bernard. She is passionate and feisty and works for Alitalia.

Gretchen: A German airline stewardess, Gretchen is also engaged to Bernard. She is strong and beautiful and works for Lufthansa.

Berthe: Bernard’s French housekeeper, Berthe is always exhausted and exasperated.

Robert: An old time friend of Bernard’s from Wisconsin, Robert shows up unexpectedly at Bernard’s Paris home.

The Roommate:

Rehearsals July 15 - July 27, Runs July 28 - August 6

Sharon: (middle age / race/ethnicity open)

Sharon is not naive but she has lived a stereotypical, normal, Midwestern, middle-class life with little sense of adventure. She's still a little wounded and disillusioned by her recent divorce. Her craving for adventure is awoken by the introduction of Robyn into her life.

Robyn: (middle age / (race/ethnicity open) Robyn is a more worldly woman with a darker past who is trying to turn over a new leaf. She has a tinge of cynicism coming from hard knocks.
