AUDITION NOTICE [MISS]

Edmonds Driftwood Players is seeking actors for their upcoming production of [MISS], part of our Theatre of Intriguing Possibilities series.

AUDITION DATESSunday, November 10, 2019 from 12:00 to 4:00 pm and Monday, November 11, 2019 from 7:00 to 9:30 pm.

AUDITION LOCATION Edmonds Driftwood Players Administrative Office, 306 Main Street, Edmonds, WA (Lower level of the Bank of America).

CALLBACKS (BY INVITATION ONLY)Wednesday, November 13, 2019, 7:00 pm (location TBD).

REHEARSAL DATES November 16, 2019 - January 15, 2020.

Rehearsal schedule will be finalized after casting and are generally held on Monday through Thursday evenings from 7:00 - 10:00 pm. Occasional weekend rehearsals will be held to offset weekdays lost due to holiday breaks during this time period. Actors cast in the show may not be called to every rehearsal.

PERFORMANCE DATESThis production plays at The Wade James Theatre, home of Edmonds Driftwood Players, 950 Main Street, Edmonds, WA on Thursday through Sunday (5 performances total) from January 16 - 19, 2019. Performances are Thursday/Friday/Saturday at 8:00 pm and Saturday/Sunday at 2:00 pm. Performances and strike (immediately following closing performance) are mandatory.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Based on true events, this play tells the story of Dr. Frances Kelsey's battle with a powerful drug company to prevent thalidomide from being approved for release in the United States. Concerned about the drug's potential effect on pregnant women, she resists the drug company's attacks to force her to back down. [MISS] is about the challenges women face in science and the ability of one uncompromising woman to change history and save lives.

WHAT TO PREPARE

Headshot and resume required, and a monologue of one to two minutes length.

SEEKING THE FOLLOWING ROLESDR.

FRANCES OLDHAM KELSEY: FDA Investigator, Female, mid 40s, prim, forthright, studious. Definitely one of the sharpest knives in the drawer.

DR. RAYMOND STEHLE: McGill Professor, Male, 50s-60s (doubles as DR. NULSEN), Obi Wan, Mister Miyagi, Uncle Hiro.

JOHN YODER: Husband of Betty, Male, 30s, loving, attentive, wants kids.

BETTY YODER: Merrell Pharmaceutical Representative, Female, late 20s, career woman with her foot in the door.

DR. JOSEPH MURRAY: Merrell Contact Man, Male, 40s, corporate VP level, cool, calculating.

DR. RAYMOND POGGE: Merrell Medical Director, Male, 50s, corporate director level, passionate, ambitious, sales forward.

GERTRUDE HELFER: FDA Staff, Female, mid 30s, Korean War widow, FDA tribal knowledge base, not too jaded to be impressionable.

MARY BECK: Merrell Pharmaceutical Representative, Female, late 20s to mid 30s, career woman, sympathetic to Betty.

DR. RAY NULSEN: Physician, Male, 50s-60s (doubles as DR. STEHLE), a random middle aged MD on the backside of his career that spends more time on the golf course than the exam room and never met a kickback he didn't like.
