ANNOUNCES NATIONAL AUDITION TOUR IN 18 U.S. CITIES FOR MCB SUMMER INTENSIVE
MULTI-CITY INTERNATIONAL MASTER CLASS TOUR VISITS COLOMBIA AND BRAZIL
Miami City Ballet School, the official school of Miami City Ballet (MCB) and a nationally recognized leader in dance education, will hold auditions in 18 U.S. cities, coast-to-coast, for its prestigious MCB Summer Intensive. Auditions for the five-week program begin in Boston on Friday, January 9, 2015 and conclude February 22, 2015 at MCB’s 63,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility located in a neighborhood, campus-like setting just steps away from Miami Beach’s famed shoreline. A total of 220 students ages 12 - 18 will be accepted into the program. Acceptance is by audition only and is intended for serious dance students. Scholarships are awarded based on merit and financial need. Males accepted into the program will receive full tuition scholarships. Off-premise chaperoned housing is available at the University of Miami. Residential Assistants and campus security are on duty 24 hours a day. Students have access to on-campus urgent care. MCB’s professional Physical Therapy staff is also available to the students on site at MCB Studios.
In addition, MCB School will host an International Master Class Tour in November 2014 and is set to visit Medellin, Colombia for the first time. Additional stops include multiple cities in Brazil: Salvador, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Vitoria. Dancers who participate in a Master Class may be invited to attend the MCB Summer Intensive. MCB School is one of the only U.S. based ballet schools to actively recruit students from Latin America. In fact, the School’s Medellin stop marks the first time an American ballet school has ever visited Colombia. Scholarship opportunities are also available for international students based on merit and financial need. This year MCB School is able to extend its National Master Class Tour through a generous sponsorship from Agência Navegantes Cambio e Turismo Ltda.
MCB Summer Intensive program imitates the type of rigorous, comprehensive training aimed at developing the complete dancer that the School’s year-round Pre-Professional Division offers. Under the direction of Darleen Callaghan, classes are taught by MCB School’s highly esteemed faculty members and professional dancers from MCB. Students attending the intensive participate in approximately 4 classes a day, 6 days a week. The dynamic curriculum includes Ballet Technique, Pointe, Pas de Deux, Variations, Repertory, Modern, Jazz, Stretch, Pilates, Yoga, Floor Barre, Weight Training and classes designed specifically for males. Evening and weekend activities are also planned at many iconic Miami Beach and Miami locations, providing students with a fun and exciting summer experience. The program culminates with a Summer Repertory performance on the last two days of classes in MCB’s studio theater.
Students who complete the program and demonstrate exceptional ability will be considered for MCB School’s 2015/16 year-round Pre-Professional Division program. One half of current MCB dancers are graduates of the School.
Students are strongly urged to audition in person at one of the following audition locations. If they are unable to attend due to extenuating circumstances, DVD submissions are accepted.
All auditioning students must bring a headshot and two full-body photos (3x5 or 4x6). For the girls -- one in first arabesque and another in tendu à la seconde a terre, wearing practice clothes (no skirts.) For the boys -- one in first arabesque and another in à la seconde en l'air. Please make sure your name, address and phone number are on the photos. Additionally, students must audition with the age group that they will be in when the program begins on June 22, 2015.

About Miami City Ballet
Hailed by The New York Times as “one of America’s most beloved dance companies,” Miami City Ballet is led by Artistic Director Lourdes Lopez. The Company has 50 dancers and a repertoire of nearly 100 ballets.
