The Lionheart Theatre Company will be holding open, non-equity auditions for our upcoming production of “Love, Sex and the I.R.S.,” a comedic farce by Billy Van Zandt & Jane Milmore.
This production will be directed by Brandi Kilgore.
Lionheart is seeking 8 actors for this production. Auditions are open to all body types and all ethnicities are welcomed. Please note that these roles are all non-paying.
Audition Dates:
Sunday, December 10 at 6:30 pm
Monday, December 11 at 6:30 pm
Auditions will consist of cold reading from the script. Please bring a copy of your acting resume and a current photograph that we may keep.
Director’s Note: Please be aware that this production is a farce. The humor lies in presenting crazy, unexpected and seemingly absurd situations to the audience. I am looking for actors with great comedic timing who can keep up the fast pace of a farce. So please be familiar with the synopsis of the play, the characters, and be ready to bring the funny!
You might find a few clips on YouTube from other theaters who’ve presented this production, but I’m interested in your take.
To get a feel for the style and pace, I recommend looking at other farces like “Some Like It Hot,” “9 to 5,” and “Noises Off” to name a few.

Show Synopsis:
The classic farce that everyone should be doing – especially around tax time! Jon Trachtman and Leslie Arthur are out of work musicians who room together in New York City. To save money, Jon has been filing tax returns listing the pair as married. The day of reckoning comes when the Internal Revenue Service informs the “couple” they’re going to be investigated. Leslie masquerades as a housewife, aided by Jon’s fiancée, Kate. Complicating matters further, Leslie and Kate are having an affair behind Jon’s back, Jon’s mother drops in unexpectedly to meet her son’s fiancée, and Leslie’s ex-girlfriend shows up demanding to know why Leslie has changed and won’t see her anymore. Like a cross between I Love Lucy and Some Like it Hot.
Character Breakdown:
Leslie Arthur: (Age range 30-40) An out of work musician. Roomate of Jon. Gawky.
Note: Leslie is male, but will appear in female drag at certain points during the production as he is posing as Jon’s wife to fool the I.R.S.
Jon Trachtman: (Age range 30-40) An out of work musician. Roomate of Leslie. Good-looking and likeable. Engaged to Kate Dennis.
Kate Dennis: (Age range 25-35) Jon’s fiance, but is secretly having an affair with Leslie. Helps Jon & Leslie pull off their scheme to fool the I.R.S. Clever, quick on her feet.
Mr. Jansen: (Age range 50s+) Leslie and Jon’s landlord. Drunk. Suspicious. Doesn’t want women living in the apartment with Leslie and Jon.
Floyd Spinner: (Age range 40s-50s) An I.R.S. agent who is sent to interview Jon and Leslie to see if they are a married couple. Overstays his welcome.
Vivian Trachtman: (Age range 60s+) Jon’s mother – despite sending a telegram, her arrival is a surprise to Jon. She’s here to meet Kate and plan a wedding.
Connie: (Age range 25-35) Leslie’s girlfriend – very chatty. Comes over to the apartment to confront Leslie about why he’s been avoiding her.
Arnold Grunion: (Age range 50s+) A shady character, so an odd and interesting choice for a wedding officiant.
