SYNOPSIS OF PLAY:
Lend Me A Tenor written by Ken Ludwig was produced on both the West End (1986) and Broadway (1989). It received nine Tony award nominations and won for Best Actor and Best Director. A classic farce of mistaken identity, with an endless stream of slamming doors crafted around the human foibles surrounding romance, lust, and a zest for life Set in a 1930s Cleveland hotel as a world-class opera star is coming to town to headline the local opera company's social function of the year.

LEND ME A TENOR -Character Breakdown
Seeking: 4 w, 4m - strong actors, ages 20+.
All genders, orientations and abilities are welcome and appreciated.
This is a high energy, face paced, physical comedy. It is preferable, but not mandatory, that the roles of Tito and Max be played by actors who can sing. This is not a musical, but there are scenes where Tito and Max sing in Italian from the opera Pagliacci.
TITO MERELLI: The World's most renowned opera tenor, and notorious ladies man. Has a heavy Italian accent. Tito shares moments of passion and kissing with Diana. Age 30+
MAX: A socially awkward but highly talented operatic tenor who must find his self-confidence in order to move from company go-fer to renowned star. Ability to sing a plus. Max shares moments of passion and kissing with his girlfriend Maggie when he is playing the role of Tito. Age 20 - 40
HENRY SAUNDERS: The Cleveland Grand Opera's general manager. Maggie's father and Max's boss. Explosive personality. Age 40+
BELLHOP: The hotel bellhop, rabid fan, and operatic hopeful. Comic timing and quick wit required. Age ANY
MAGGIE SAUNDERS: Max's presumed girlfriend and the rebellious daughter of the head of the opera company. She has a great admiration for Tito. Maggie and Max share moments of passion and kissing. Age 20 - 40
MARIA MERELLI: Tito's suffering wife. She has an Italian temper and accent. Very jealous - switches from rage to passion quickly. Age 30+
DIANA: The opera's ingenue soprano, sexy small-town diva, who is doing whatever she has to, to make her way to the top. Is very confident and seductive. Diana and Tito share moments of passion and kissing. Age 20+
JULIA: Chairwoman of the Cleveland Opera Guild, over the top character who considers herself a Grande dame. Age 40+

Sides will be emailed when you schedule your audition. Please prepare the side for the part you are interested in. There will be a reader at auditions. You may read for more than one character.
Please bring a headshot/ photo and resume if available.
Callbacks will consists of readings from the script in groups. If you are unable to attend auditions you may send an audition video.
