ACT 1 proudly announces auditions for its first production of the 2014/2015 season, the TN premiere of Michel Marc Bouchard's Lilies. Auditions will be Sunday, August 17th (6:30-9pm) and Monday, August 18th (6:30-9pm) at Tulip Street United Methodist Church, 522 Russell Street (please use the side entrance on 6th) Callbacks, if necessary, will be Wednesday, August 20th. Synopsis: In 1952 in Quebec, a group of ex-prisoners led by the wrongfully-imprisoned Simon, lure a Bishop to meet with them under false pretenses. Thinking he has come to discuss their rehabilitation, he is instead forced to witness a dramatic reenactment of events that occurred 40 years earlier when he and Simon were schoolmates in the provincial Canadian town of Roberval. This tragic story of forbidden love, untimely death and long-awaited retribution unfolds through a series of dramatic episodes enacted by the prisoners for the benefit of their unwilling audience of one. Please be prepared to do cold readings from the script (sides will be available on request). Headshots and résumés are helpful, but not required. Characters available: (please note, all roles will be played by male actors): * Simon Doucet (late teens-early twenties): An impulsive young man with a domineering father. Obsessed with fire. * Count Vallier de Tilly (late teens-early twenties): A young exiled aristocrat. Intelligent, with delicate manners and excessive sensitivity, which have earned him the nickname Lily-White. * Father Saint-Michel (30s to 50s): Drama teacher at St. Sebastian's School for Boys. His theatrical endeavors with ecclesiastical-erotic overtones are beginning to make tongues wag. * Jean Bilodeau (late teens-early twenties): Classmate of Simon and Vallier, very religious and intolerant. * Countess Marie-Laure de Tilly (30s-40s): Vallier's mother. Doesn't quite live in the real world, devoted to her son. Hoping desperately for the return of her husband and the French monarchy. * Timothée Doucet (40s-50s): Simon's father, an alcoholic widower with a vicious temper. * Baron de Hüe (30s-50s): A vacationing doctor. * Mademoiselle Lydie-Anne de Rozier (20s-30s): An attractive, exotic woman. An expert liar with a true heart. * Baroness de Hüe (30s-50s): Baron de Hüe's wife. Obessessed with Ouananich salmon fishing. * (1952) Simon Doucet (40s-60s): Recently released after serving 40 years in prison for a crime he did not commit, full of hatred for Bilodeau. * (1952) Jean Bilodeau (40s-60s): Now a Bishop, Bilodeau grudgingly agrees to visit his old schoolmate, Simon, and is forced to deal with long-suppressed feelings of guilt and jealousy.
