Out of the Box Theatre Company -- a theatre company dedicated to providing challenging, innovative, contemporary musical theatre to the Santa Barbara community -- is holding auditions for its October 2012 production of JOHN & JEN.
DESCRIPTION: Set against the background of a changing America between 1950 and 1990, this truly original musical takes a look at the complexities of relationships between brothers and sisters and parents and children. This is the story of Jen and her relationships with the two Johns of her life: her younger brother, who was killed in Vietnam, and his namesake, her son who is trying to find his own way in a confusing world. With a cast of only two people, JOHN & JEN is a tour-de-force for two actors who take them from childhood, through adolescence and beyond.

OTHER INFORMATION: Rehearsals will be four evenings a week from 7PM-10PM, Tuesday through Friday starting September 4th. The show is scheduled to run Thurs-Sun, October 4-14, 2012 at Center Stage Theater. Actors will be paid a $500 flat-rate stipend.
BREAKDOWN: [JOHN] 17-25, to play 5-18 years old. Seeking a versatile actor able to portray a variety of different ages and characters, from playful child to conservative all-American soldier, from concerned son to rebellious teen desperately seeking independence. Light/high baritone or low tenor, low A to top G.
PREPARATION: Please bring a recent picture and resume and prepare two contrasting songs, at least one from a contemporary musical. All sheet music should be marked and in the correct key. Sides will be available at the audition, please be prepared to cold read.
