JIMMY BUFFETT’S ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE - Ocala Civic Theatre

ABOUT THE SHOW Tully is a part-time bartender, part-time singer, and full-time charmer with a license to chill at the Margaritaville Hotel & Bar. At this idyllic tropical resort in the Caribbean, it’s always five o’clock somewhere on island time, an endless happy hour serving up cheeseburgers in paradise. Tully thinks he's got life all figured out… until a beautiful, career-minded tourist looking for changes in latitude and attitude steals his heart and makes him question everything. Full of Jimmy Buffett’s best-loved songs, everybody’s a pirate and a Parrothead in this laid-back, light-hearted musical. It’s the most fun you can have without a passport!

ROLES AVAILABLE Three men, three women, and ensemble.

• Tully: Male, age 27-39. A smooth-talking, self-deprecating playboy. He's completely content with the life he's chosen as the singer/bartender at a tropical resort, until he meets Rachel. Guitar skills are useful. Vocal range: tenor, B2-C5.

• Rachel: Female, age 27-33. Fully committed to her job and helping the world. Willing to put in as many hours of hard work as it takes and expects everyone else to do the same. Suspicious of fools, Rachel is not easily distracted from her life plan. Vocal range: mezzo-soprano, A3-F#5.

• Tammy: Female, age 30-39. Loyal friend to Rachel. Sees the best in people and has a zest for life that is often squelched by her fiancé, Chadd. Her low self-esteem manifests itself as denial in her own life. Vocal range: mezzo-soprano, B3-F5.

• J.D.: Male, age 60-79. A funny, endearing older man who always has a parrot on his shoulder. He's losing his vision and his hearing, but won't acknowledge it. A good-natured drunkard, he's always writing his memoirs on bar napkins and has lived a full life. Vocal range: baritone, G2-D4.

• Marley: Female, age 40-49. No-nonsense and assertive, with an island accent. She runs the resort and keeps everyone in check, but clearly cares about her employees, her customers, and J.D. Great singer. Vocal range: mezzo-soprano, A2-C5.

• Brick: Male, age 30-39. The island bartender. Has a big heart and is a good friend to Tully. Not the brightest bulb, but sensitive and thoughtful. Vocal range: tenor, A2-C5.

• Ensemble: Various ages and vocal ranges. Characters include Jamal/Ted, Chadd, goons, Cloud Jesus, and vacation guests.
