Following a successful inaugural season that included two world premieres and a well-attended school matinee program, Young People’s Theatre of Chicago kick-starts its sophomore season at the Greenhouse Theater Center with the fantastically fun Junie B. Jones The Musical.
Synopsis
With her “top-secret personal beeswax” journal, Junie B. Jones is ready for first grade! But is she ready for the changes coming her way? Based on the celebrated book series, Junie B. Jones promises to kick-start YPT’s new season with sass!

All ethnicities, abilities, genders, and orientations are encouraged to submit. Casting all roles and understudies.
ACTOR 1* — 6 years-old. Casting late teens/20s. Female presenting. Vocal range: G#3 - E5
- Junie B. Jones: Quirky, precocious, and energetic–with terrific comic timing. Junie gets worked up when things don't go her way but remains totally endearing.
ACTOR 2 — late teens/20s to play 6 year-olds. Female presenting / Latinx. Vocal range: F3 - E5.
- Lucille: Junie's former best friend, also in first grade. Enthusiastic child diva.
- Bobbi Jean Piper: Grace's new best friend.
- Jose: Another first grader in Mr. Scary's class. Speaks Spanish and English.
ACTOR 3 — late teens / 20s to play 6 year-olds. Male presenting. Vocal range A2 - G4
- Herb: Junie B.'s new best friend. A cute boy, slightly shy. Endearing and charming.
- Chenille: Lucille's new best friend and Camille's twin sister. Coordinated and cute.
ACTOR 4 — 20s / 30s to play a variety of ages. Female presenting. Vocal range: A3 - D#5
- May: A first grader in Mr. Scary's class with Junie B. Bossy, know-it-all. Junie's nemesis.
- Mother: Exasperated, but understanding.
- Grace: Junie B.'s other former best friend. She rides the bus with Junie B. and
is now best friends with Bobbi Jean Piper.
ACTOR 5 — late teens / 20s to play 6 year-olds. Male presenting. Vocal range: B2 - E4
- Sheldon: A first grader. Nerdy, lactose intolerant, and gets a bit of stage fright. Excited about playing music.
- Camille: Lucille's new best friend and Chenille's twin sister. A follower.
ACTOR 6* — 30s+. Male presenting. Vocal range: A#2 - D#4
- Mr. Scary: Junie B.'s first grade teacher, a warm man, despite his name.
- Daddy: Junie B.'s dad. Encouraging. Knows how to juggle.
- Mrs. Gutzman: The kids' favorite lunch lady, also known as Gladys Gutzman,
Queen of Snacks.
*NOTE: Actor 1 and Actor 6 - juggling experience a plus!
