Non-Equity Actors and Vocalists Encouraged to Audition for Jesus Christ Superstar in Concert
Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center is opening its doors to regional and national talent on March 22-23. Non-equity auditions are being held for various roles in the Professional Company production of Jesus Christ Superstar in Concert. The show runs April 25-27 and May 2-4 in the Center's Mainstage Theater and rehearsals will take place April 6-24. More information can be found online at
www.centerauditions.org. To schedule an audition, performers should e-mail
auditions@lppacenter.org or call (724) 259-6443. Sheet music in the correct key is required and an accompanist will be provided.
Four principal singing roles are available, ranging from high tenor to low bass, as well as multiple ensemble roles. Character breakdowns are available upon request. Singers should prepare 32 bars of a Broadway or rock-style song, up-tempo or ballad. The dance audition will be held from 6-9 p.m. on March 23. There will also be a Superstar choir comprised of 72 sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses. Those singers should prepare 32 bars of a Pop Standard or Golden Age of Broadway song, up-tempo or ballad. Additionally, singers should learn the selection from Hosanna available for download on the website.
Director Gavan Pamer encourages a wide variety of performers to audition. We have roles available for everyone! said Pamer. The show has such soul, and we'd love to see local rockers audition for the principal singing roles. We're also very excited to fill our Superstar choir with talented people who are passionate about singing—even if they've only sung with their church or high school choirs.
Most people may not know that 'Jesus Christ Superstar' was originally developed as a concept album and the first live performance in the United States took place in Pittsburgh. It's exciting to bring the show back to the basics, while still incorporating visuals that serve only to further the story instead of getting caught up in the expansive production aspects, Pamer said. We're thrilled to present this musical in its truest form.
Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's critically acclaimed rock opera chronicles the last week of Jesus Christ's life as seen through the eyes of Judas. Based on the Gospels, this award-winning musical profiles Jesus and those closest to him. Using contemporary elements, Jesus Christ Superstar in Concert highlights the struggles between Jesus and Judas and ends with the crucifixion. These in concert performances will allow the actors and musicians alike to reveal a raw and intimate insight into the beauty and meaning of the music and lyrics. Tickets are on sale now.
