Le Petit Theatre will hold an open audition to cast actors and dancers for the two musicals in its upcoming season: Peter and the Starcatcher(Peter) and Jesus Christ Superstar, (Superstar) at the theatre on Monday, July 14 from 6:30 pm to 8pm. Callbacks for Peter are scheduled for 8:30 p.m. and dance callbacks for Superstar are set for 9:15 p.m on July 14.
Director Beau Bratcher is seeking 9 Actors (8 Male and 1 Female) forPeter and the Starcatcher which runs Nov. 7-23. Director Augustin J. Correro is seeking 16-18 men/women for Jesus Christ Superstar, which runs Jan. 16-30. See full casting breakdown below for further details. All ethnicities are encouraged to audition.
Auditioners may express interest in one or both shows and may be asked to stay for dancing or readings/improv.
Appointment-only auditions for Jesus Christ Superstar - In addition, auditions may be scheduled for Superstar on July 13 by appointment. Auditions are open to both AEA/Non-Union actors. Casting Breakdown - Peter and the Starcatcher - New Orleans Premier
Seeking 9 Actors (8 Male and 1 Female)
NOTE: The roles of Black Stache, Alf and Lord Astor have been cast. All other roles are available. The production runs Nov. 7-8, 12-16, and 20-23. Rehearsals will begin on or around September 28. General Auditions for this magical, creative and feisty ensemble-driven new take on the Peter Pan story are by appointment only. Auditions and Callbacks will take place on Monday, July 14. Please prepare 16-measures of an upbeat song of your choice. An accompanist will be provided. And please come prepared to show your best/most creative ability to FLY.
ROLES AVAILABLE:
Peter: Male; 20-30
Peter is a boy who doesn’t miss much, nameless, homeless, and friendless at the beginning of the play, but a hero by the end, feral, brave, competitive, the boy the others will come to look up to, more than anything in the world, he wants a home and a family, will stare at adult life from a distance, but will never understand it (or enjoy it) because he will be forever held back in childhood. If he could grow up, he’d fall for Molly in a big way. Should have a strong British accent.
Molly Aster: Female; 20-30
Molly has been raised to believe females can do anything males can, a natural leader at a time when girls are mostly followers, fearless, passionate, devoted to her father, her country, and her Queen, willing to risk everything for the sake of doing right, curious, intelligent, beginning to feel things she doesn’t yet understand (romantic longings that revert to childish tantrums under pressure) because, for the moment, she’s still a thirteen-year-old kid, will be one heck of a woman one day. Must have an excellent British accent; vocal requirements: comfortable enough singer for featured solos, mix/belt to a C#.
Smee: Male; 25-50
Smee is the first mate to the Black Stache, simple-minded but single-mindedly dedicated to his captain’s every whim, no first name, and, from the day he was out of diapers, packed off to serve somebody, his motto is Tis good to be busy. Must have an excellent British accent, featured singer; vocal requirements: strong singer, tenor 2 up to F’s comfortably.
Prentiss: Male; 20s-30s (a bit older than Peter)
Prentiss is an orphan, ambitious, hyper-articulate, logical, yearns to lead but knows it’ll never happen, due to the fact that the boys wouldn’t follow him, just the teeny-tiniest touch of cowardice; Strong British accent preferred; vocal requirements: baritone/tenor 2 E’s & F's.
Ted: Male; 20s-30s
Ted is also an orphan, obsessed with food (the finding of, the eating of, the pining over, the dreaming about), the most talented of the boys, a natural actor and easy wit, maybe even a poet, called Tubby by Prentiss, though not due to girth (of which orphans, given their meager diets, have very little indeed), fed up with Prentiss but hungry for companionship, must be funny and real, comic responsibility is vital; Strong British accent preferred; ability to play an instrument a plus; vocal requirements: strong singer, baritone/tenor 2.
Grempkin: Male; 30-40
Grempkin is the mean and malodorous schoolmaster from St. Norbert’s Orphanage for Lost Boys, known as the Angel of Anguish, keeps his boys in the dark, as sunlight is known to feed rebellious notions, also plays Mack, a very bad sailor who wants to be anywhere else but under the thumb of Bill Slank, also plays Fighting Prawn, King of the Mollusk natives, son of Jumbo Prawn and Littleneck Clam, kidnapped by British sailors and brought in chains to England, he served as sous-chef below stairs in a country estate in Derbyshire, where, for no good reason, he learned Italian wines and mastered Italian cuisine, since returning to his island kingdom, he has vengefully murdered any English with the nerve to land on his Mollusk Isle domain. Must have an excellent British and convincing tropical accent; vocal requirements: bass/baritone.
Bill Slank: Male; 30-45
Slank is a vicious captain without the skill or quality to lead anyone but himself (and always into disaster), would sell his own mother for a ship to command, would kill his best friend for a leg-up from the stinking hole he calls home, also plays Hawking Clam, son of Fighting Prawn and Princess Sweetnsour Prawn, conceived the night his father was captured and whisked off to a British kitchen half a world away, shares his father’s hatred for the British, one day he will ascend the Clam throne as head of the Royal Clam Clan. Must have an excellent British and convincing tropical accent; vocal requirements: bass/baritone.
Mrs. Brumbake and other characters: Male; 35-50
Mrs. Bumbrake is Molly’s nanny, a brave British widow with a big heart and a love of alliteration, a no-nonsense, good-time gal, who liked a rough shag and a quick drag too back in the day, still has enough of her girlish charm intact to turn a sailor’s head and leaven his dreams, stiff in the lip, loose in the hip, fun on a ship, also plays Teacher, formerly a salmon, now an ancient, knowledgeable mermaid. Must have excellent British accent and Scottish is helpful; vocal requirements: strong enough singer for a cappella solo, baritone.
Captain Robert Falcon Scott: Male; 35-45
Capt. Scott was captain of the sports teams at Trinity School, now commander of the fastest ship in Victoria’s fleet, the Wasp, if you don’t ask, he won’t tell about his school boy crush on Leonard Aster, also a student at Trinity, years later, he would lead an expeditionary team to the South Pole, freeze to death, and become an iconic British hero, Scott of the Antarctic. Must have an excellent British accent; vocal requirements: baritone/tenor 2, up to F#.
Casting Breakdown - Jesus Christ Superstar
Director Augustin J Correro is casting 16-18 men/women: strong contemporary musical theatre and pop/rock/folk singers who act well. Ensemble singer/dancers who move well and/or with acro ability.
All Ethnicities encouraged to audition. All Roles Available.
All auditioning should bring sheet music in the appropriate key and prepare 32 bars of a contemporary musical theatre or pop/rock/folk song in the style of the show. Be prepared to sing the entire song if asked. Accompanist provided. Be prepared to attend the dance call later in the evening if asked.
Jesus – 20’s-30’s. Rock Tenor (low B to high E). Charismatic, incendiary rock icon. He’s the guy everybody wants to get behind, but his ideals can be lofty and he has a tendency to be proud and careless.
Judas – 20’s-30’s. Rock Tenor (low D to high E). Jesus’ right-hand man. Passionate and thoughtful, but hot-headed. Not a villain.
Mary – 20’s. Mezzo (low G# to B). A breath of fresh air. Mary is Jesus’ new opener. She sometimes comes across as green, but she’s full of insight. Faces adversity with grace and bravery.
Herod – Any Age. Tenor (low B to high B). The King before whom Jesus is brought for judgment. He’s not very sensitive and he’s supremely entitled. He’s the kind of guy you might like if you’re in his entourage…but even then, probably not.
Pilate – 30’s-40’s. Baritenor (low A to Bb). Governor of Judea. Level-headed to a fault and deeply compassionate. He’s a teddy bear with a lot of responsibility and gravitas. Reaches his breaking point with Jesus.
Simon – 20’s. Tenor (G3-B4). Single-minded devotee of Jesus. He’s all about Jesus’ message, but he lacks Jesus’ temperament and Judas’foresight. He’s dynamite, but he’s a lot to handle.
Peter – 20’s-30’s. Baritone (A2-G4). Another of Jesus’ apostles. More grounded than Judas or Simon, he’d be Jesus’ go-to guy if Judas and Mary didn’t have all his attention.
Caiaphas – 30+. Bass (low C to middle F). High Priest who would sooner see his people bury their heads in the sand than speak up against oppression. Finds himself trapped between a rock and a hard place with the Jesus situation. Not a villain, but very shrewd.
Annas – Any Age. Countertenor (G2-D5). A scheming colleague of Caiaphas. He’d stir the pot and endanger people’s lives just to see what happens.
An Ensemble of Apostles, Priests, Fans, etc. – Any Ages. Strong singers and dancers. Multiple solo parts.
