Davidson Community Players To Hold Open Auditions for I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change

Davidson Community Players announces open auditions for its Bonus Show production of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, with books and lyrics by Joe DiPietro and music by Jimmy Roberts. The production will be directed by Katie Mullis, with musical direction by Christopher Lawing. This hilarious musical revue celebrates the agonies and triumphs of the mating game, from dating and finding love to marriage and in-laws. The production will run March 30th - April 9th.

Auditions:

· Monday Feb. 6th from 7:00 - 10:00 pm at Armour Street Theatre, 307 Armour Street, Davidson.

· Tuesday, Feb 7th from 7:00 - 10:00 at Armour Street Theatre, 307 Armour Street, Davidson.

Only one session is required. All auditionees should prepare 16 bars of a song that shows off their vocal range. Actors should be prepared for cold readings from the script. Audition songs should be memorized. Please bring music in the proper key, an accompanist will be provided. A capella singing is NOT recommended. Auditionees should also bring a recent picture, a list of theatrical experience and a list of conflicts for the late February-March time frame. This show will be condensed into a shorter rehearsal period.

Roles are available for performers ages 17 and up. The show was originally cast with 4 cast members (2 men; 2 women) between the ages of 25-35. These cast members create the show’s 56 different characters. A few of those characters are soppy parents, quarrelling lovers, egotistical one-night stands and senior romantics. So the actors must be versatile and have strong comic timing. All four must be capable of singing both strong solos and close harmonies. This is not a dance intensive show; there are only a couple of choreography numbers/sequences. The main challenge for actors will be to create a variety of comedic characters.

We may expand the cast to accommodate up to 8 cast members (up to 4 men and 4 women); which would allow us to expand character age range accordingly.

WOMAN 1 – female – can play 20s to early 30s. Soprano–low A to Bb.

WOMAN 2 – female – can play late 20s to early 40s. Alto–low F# to Db.

MAN 1 – male – can play 20s to late 30s. Bari-tenor—middle C to Ab.

MAN 2 – male – can play late 20s to early 40s. Baritone—lower Db to upper Gb.

Perusal copies of the script are available in the DCP office. For additional information regarding auditions, please contact Sylvia Schnople, Artistic Director at
