I AM AN ISLAND BY JULIA LEDERER - Watering Hole Collective

I Am An Island is a surrealist dark comedy that takes place on an island that is sinking. In this one-act, May tries to convince others of this, but no one will listen, resulting in a political demonstration of her standing still, and sinking into the sea. The play is a metaphor for how innately uncertain our world is. How it is sinking, environmentally, culturally, and communally – and how we avoid this.

Director:
Angela Gulner (she/her). New to DFW by way of Los Angeles, Angela is a filmmaker and theater artist with an MFA in Acting from ART/MXAT Institute at Harvard. She specializes in new and devised work, originating roles in productions like The Messenger and I Think Therefore I Am. As a filmmaker, she is an accomplished screenwriter (with films written for Lifetime, Hallmark, and Balcony9) and she directed her first feature film The Beldham this past year.
Playwright:
Julia Lederer (she/her). An acclaimed playwright and screenwriter from Toronto. Her works have been staged across North America and Europe, earning nominations for awards like Best Production from the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle and two Playwrights Guild of Canada Awards. Her films have screened at renowned festivals worldwide, including TIFF and SXSW, with her feature film adaptation of With Love and a Major Organ premiering at SXSW 2023.
