Harriet's Daughters: Black women have long gone above and beyond the call of duty in their contributions to American civic life, particularly when it comes to voter turnout and political participation, often with little to no recognition. Following a panel discussion, an ensemble cast performs an art piece exploring the life and legacy of Harriet Tubman, a civic organizer and political activist before her time, through music, dance, and drumming.
Say Her Name: The Lives That Should Have Been: A multimedia performance installation imagines the lives that mothers, daughters, and sisters, may have led had they not been cut short by violence

Rate of Pay: $250 per week* for a total of 3 weeks, including 1 public performance per show
*The roles of the Reporter and Miss Ann will be called for minimal rehearsals and will only perform in Harriet’s Daughters on March 27th. The stipend for these roles is a total of $400 each.

Experience with singing and African dance is a PLUS.
There will be one public performance per program- “Harriet’s Daughters” on March 27, “Say Her Name:The Lives That Should Have Been” on March 28 in conjunction with all of the Her Dream Deferred: A Week on the Status of Black Women series at the Hammer

Tonya: Black woman, late teens to Mid-20s. Bright-eyed ingenue. Not fully grounded
Harriet: Black woman, (Ageless) Strong-willed and determined. Suffers no fools.
Sally: Black woman, late-40s. World-weary and pensive.
Binta: Black woman, mid to late-20s. Forthright and maternal even at a young age.
Ensemble: Black women of various ages. Dancers. African Dance experience a plus.
