The CM PERFORMING ARTS CENTER is holding auditions for HELLO DOLLY on Saturday, February 26th at 12:00PM and Sunday, February 27th at 6:00PM. Please prepare 16-32 bars of a song from or in the style of the show. Callbacks will follow by appointment. Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes for dancing in case you are asked to stick around for a dance call. Rehearsals will begin immediately. Performance dates are below. Please bring possible rehearsal and/or performance conflicts to the audition.
All gender identities and expressions, racial and ethnic backgrounds, and physical and cognitive abilities are encouraged to audition. About the Show:
This musical adaptation of Thornton Wilder’s hit play The Matchmaker bursts with humor, romance, energetic dance and some of the greatest songs in musical theatre history. The romantic and comic exploits of Dolly Gallagher-Levi, turn-of-the-century matchmaker and “woman who arranges things,” are certain to thrill and entertain audiences again and again.

Character Descriptions:
DOLLY LEVI (Female, 40-65, Mezzo) A charming meddling matchmaker. A widow in her middle years who has decided to begin her life again. She is a strong character with commanding presence, but she must also show compassion and vulnerability. Excellent comic timing. (Vocal Range: F#3-C#5)
HORACE VANDERGELDER (Male, 45-60, Baritone) Proprietor of a Hay & Feed store and a client of Dolly Levi. A widower of some means. (Vocal Range: Bb2-E4)
CORNELIUS HACKL (Male, 25-40, Tenor) Vandergelder’s chief clerk who yearns for one exciting day in NYC. Some legit baritone singing. Good comic timing. (Vocal range: A2-G4)
BARNABY TUCKER (Male, 16-25, Baritone) An assistant to Cornelius at Vandergelder’s Hay & Feed store. Featured dance role. (Vocal Range: A2-G4)
IRENE MOLLOY (Female, 30-45, Soprano) A milliner with a Hat Shop in New York City. Dolly has introduced her to Horace Vandegelder but she yearns for romance. (Vocal Range: G3-F5)
MINNIE FAY (Female, 16-25, Mezzo) A young girl who works in Irene’s hat shop. Featured dance role. (Vocal Range: Bb3-F5)
ERMENGARDE (Female, 16-25, Mezzo) The young niece of Horace Vandergelder. She cries often and wants her independence. Strong dance ability/featured dance role.. (Vocal Range: A3-C#5)
AMBROSE KEMPER (Male, 18-25, Tenor) An explosive young artist seeking to marry Ermengarde. Strong dance ability/featured dance role.. (Vocal Range: F#3-F#4)
ERNESTINA MONEY (Female, 30-50, chorus singing only) An eccentric woman in need of Dolly’s matchmaker services. Good comic timing.
RUDOLPH REISENWEBER (Male, 40-60, chorus singing only) The Prussian major-domo of the Harmonia Gardens
MRS. ROSE (Female, 40-60, chorus singing only) A friend of Dolly’s from years before who sells vegetables from a street cart.
JUDGE (Male, 30s-60s, chorus singing only) White whiskered night court judge. Easily moved to tears by romance.
ENSEMBLE (Male and Female, 16+) who play Townspeople of New York, Yonkers Band, Lodge Members, Feed Store Customers, Harmonia Gardens Customers and Staff, Polka Contest Contestants, 14th Street Parade Ensemble and Policemen as well as several smaller roles. We are looking for strong singers who move and strong dancers who sing.
