Houston Family Arts Center (HFAC) announces auditions on February 8, 2014, for its main stage production of Stephen Schwartz’s Godspell. The show performs weekends at the HFAC Garza Mainstage April 4-27, 2014.
AUDITION DATES AND TIMES
Auditions for Godspell, directed by Jeff Baldwin, will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2014, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM by appointment at HFAC located in NW Houston at 10760 Grant Road, Houston, TX 77070.
GENERAL AUDITION INFORMATION
Actors can make an appointment for an audition time slot on at www.houstonfac.com main stage tab auditions link. Please include your desired role and best contact number in your request. Please bring a resume with a headshot stapled to the back of the resume.
Auditions are open to the community. No part has been pre-cast, and we always welcome new faces! All parts may be cast with actors of any ethnicity. Actors will receive two free tickets and access to discounted tickets.
AUDITION PREPARATION
Auditions will consist of a 32-bar musical selection and 1-minute comedic monologue. Please bring a printed piano accompaniment or an accompaniment CD without vocals. A pianist will be available at auditions. No a cappella please.
CALLBACKS
Callbacks will be held by invitation only on Monday, February 10, 2013, from 7:15-9:45 PM. Callback invitations will be posted on the HFAC website (houstonfac.com) main stage tab audition link. Callbacks will consist of a cold reading from the script, singing a portion of the song(s) sung by the character for which you are being considered, and learning and performing movements taught by the choreographer.
CAST TYPE
We are looking for a diverse cast (age, ethnicity) of strong musicians and storytellers who can showcase their personality through unique musical talents.
PLAY SYNOPSIS
Godspell is a fun, modern day retelling of the New Testament parables from “The Gospel According to Matthew”. The show features a sparkling rock gospel score, and is at times comedic and at times sentimental. The ensemble cast helps explain to the audience parables through song and dance, comedy, and mime. Godspell is a wonderful opportunity for a cast of actors to come together and create joyous, compelling, and exciting theatre.
REHEARSAL SCHEDULE
Rehearsals are held at HFAC. Beginning February 10, rehearsals are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings 7:15-10:00 PM and Saturdays from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM, an additional music rehearsal is scheduled for Wednesday February 12 from 7:15 – 10:00 PM. A complete rehearsal schedule will be available at auditions. Up to 2 rehearsal conflicts can usually be accommodated except for the last two weeks of rehearsals. All actors will be required at all rehearsals.
PERFORMANCES
Godspell runs April 4-27, 2014, on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM and Sunday matinees at 3 PM at the HFAC Garza Main Stage 10760 Grant Road, Houston, TX 77070.
