AUDITIONS SET FOR GYPSY!”
Gettysburg Community Theatre, the non-profit 501c3 organization located in the original Elks Lodge building at 49 York Street within the first block of Lincoln Square in historic downtown Gettysburg, will hold auditions for the musical, GYPSY on May 16 & 17 at 7pm for adults and children 2nd-12th Grade.
Gypsy is the ultimate showbiz backstage story of a mother who pushes her daughters to become stars only to lead the children into unexpected directions. Based on the memoirs of legendary burlesque performer Gypsy Rose Lee, this classic musical features memorable songs as “Let Me Entertain You”, “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” and “Small World”. The music is by Jule Styne, with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Arthur Laurents. Gypsy is considered one of the most cherished, complex and popular musicals in the history of theatre.
Performances of Gypsy will be weekends September 16-October 2, 2016, but knowing many will have summer conflicts with vacations, the directors will be holding auditions early to hopefully be able to accommodate the many different schedules of children and adults throughout the community.
Those wishing to audition for the large cast musical of children, teens and adults should pick either May 16 or 17 at 7pm to attend the audition, be prepared to sing 32 measures to one chorus of a Broadway song of their choice, dress comfortable, and bring their calendars with them so that they can write down their unavailability on the audition form. Anyone under age 18 must have a parent with them at the auditions to help them complete the form. All roles are open, but only children in rising grades 2nd-12th Grade will be cast with the adults into this production of Gypsy. Children must also enroll in at least one of the two weeks of “Broadway Gypsy” themed summer day camps that the director is teaching this summer at GCT, which will be the majority of the children’s rehearsal time for the production. Children must be enrolled in the camp in order to be cast in the show. Registration is open online at
