Good Theater Sets Audition Dates for 2019-2020 Season
Good Theater is holding auditions for its 18th season (September 2019 through April 2020) on May 28 and 29 from 4:00-9:00 each day. Actors of all genders and ethnicities are encouraged to attend. Auditions are by appointment and actors will be asked to read sides from shows in the company’s season. A pianist will be provided for any and all performers who wish to sing. Please bring your own sheet music if you plan to be considered for the musical or Broadway at Good Theater. Send an e-mail to

Here is a breakdown of shows and roles in the company’s season:
Admissions by Joshua Harmon (this play won the 2018 Drama Desk and Outer Critics’ Circle Awards for Best Play) Sherri Rosen-Mason is head of the admissions department at a New England prep school, fighting to diversify the student body. Alongside her husband, the school’s Headmaster, they’ve largely succeeded in bringing a stodgy institution into the twenty-first century. But when their only son sets his sights on an Ivy League university, personal ambition collides with progressive values, with convulsive results.

Boxes by Jule Selbo (East Coast premiere, show played Los Angeles to great reviews) What is there within the darkness of a box that may reveal ones deepest hopes and nightmares? Self-effacing medical student, Sigourney, aspiring to love and affirmation in all the wrong places, finds herself working for a man of great reputation and personal power; a man who challenges her, excites her, and stimulates in her visions of enduring happiness. He gives to her a series of boxes containing objects of beauty and mystery that test her mind and senses with promises of immense reward – but is there a deeper mystery? She struggles to discover truths – truths about her principles, personal strength, and her most profound desires

-Dr. Robert Eden: mid to late 30s, a professor and clinical researcher. Enjoys nice clothes, nice things. He is cool, calculating and can be very charming.
-Dr. Kelly Banford: mid to late 30s, a professor in clinical research. Sexy and cool.
-Clifford: age 28-30, a graduate student in medical research obsessed with gaming and always looking for an opportunity to move ahead.
Popcorn Falls by James Hindman (Maine premiere) Welcome to Popcorn Falls, a small American town whose only claim to fame – their namesake waterfall – has dried up. Now bankrupt, their last chance is a large grant that can only be used if the town produces a play in a week. One big problem: no playhouse. Another problem: no play. Led by the Mayor and the local handyman, the enterprising townsfolk try to rise to the challenge and prove that art can save the world. Two actors play 21 characters in the town of Popcorn Falls.

Gordon Lonsdale photographing and encoding as microdots various pieces of material which they then sent to their colleagues in Russia, as part of a Soviet espionage network known as the
Portland Spy Ring that had penetrated Britain's Royal Navy.

THE MAN WHO MARRIED HIS MOTHER-IN-LAW is Gerald Halverson's confession of an elicit love and a plan to shelter five million dollars from the IRS. When Gerald's mother-in-law, Spiffy, finds out she hasn't long to live, Gerald concocts a plan to keep her estate in the family. But when they move down to Florida to wait out Spiffy's death sentence at Riddle Key, old friends and new faces threaten to spoil the scheme, and a surprise twist throws a wrench into Gerald's plans unless he can pull off the perfect murder. MARGARET FAYDLE COMES TO TOWN is about Lucy Stickler, the long-suffering wife of Bob, a septuagenarian who used to have a roving eye. Bob's been on his best behavior for the past twenty years, but when Margaret Faydle, the still-glamorous femme fatale who stole him from Lucy when they were young, takes up residence at Riddle Key, Bob goes back into action. So Lucy constructs a diabolical plan to get rid of her cheating spouse and his AARP inamorata once and for all. Age 60s - 70s
MATCH WITS WITH MINKA LUPINO stars Minka Lupino, Riddle Key's ever-sunny, ever-helpful receptionist. Minka is a fan of crime novels who becomes an avenging angel on a mission to rid the retirement community of its predators: the conniving heirs, the sticky-fingered health-care workers, the salesmen and contractors and Bible thumpers who prey upon helpless senior citizens. But when Minka comes face to face with her idol, a famous mystery novelist who has retired to Riddle Key, she knows she's met her match. In the end, only one of them will survive. Age 30s - 50s.
