Houston Grand Opera hosts auditions for world premiere of El Milagro del Recuerdo

What: Houston Grand Opera holds auditions for 2019-2020 holiday opera, El Milagro del Recuerdo/The Miracle of Remembering by Javier Martínez and Leonard Foglia, scheduled to run for 12 performances in the Cullen Theater of the Wortham Theater Center in December 2019. The opera is a prequel to Cruzar la Cara de la Luna, which HGO presented in May 2018.

Who: Auditions will be held to cast three Mariachi singers who are also adept at playing guitar, guitarrón and/or vihuela, as well as five child actors to play speaking (non-singing roles) in the new production.

Auditioning children should be fluent Spanish-speakers and have some previous stage experience. The roles are as follows:

·Rafael – boy, appearing age 7

·Araceli – girl, appearing age 9

·Silvio – boy, appearing age 11

·Young Renata – appearing age 10

·Young Laurentino – appearing age 12

All interested candidates should have late afternoon/evening and weekend availability during the rehearsal period of Nov. 4 – Dec. 3, 2019 and be available for all performances as follows: Dec. 5, Dec. 8 matinee, Dec. 9 matinee (10am student matinee), Dec. 10 matinee (10am student matinee), Dec. 11 matinee (10am student matinee), Dec. 13, Dec. 14, Dec. 15 matinee, Dec. 19, Dec. 20, Dec. 21, and Dec. 22 matinee.

Child actors will be paid an honorarium of $150 per performance. Artists engaged for the Mariachi roles can expect to earn $1,254 per week for the seven-week period.
