East Lynne Theater Company auditions for its summer/fall season 2016

East Lynne Theater Company will have four audition days of open calls for Equity actors for its upcoming season: 2 days for the musical revue “Rodgers’ Romance” (February 13 in Philadelphia and March 2 in NYC) and 2 days for “Dracula” and “Biography” (February 26 in NYC and March 12 in Cape May, NJ).

For “Rodgers’ Romance,” auditions are at the following locations. On Saturday, February 13 from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM, at The Brind School at the University for the Arts, 211 S. Broad Street (corner of Broad and Walnut Streets). Sign-up for auditions begins at noon and continues through 4:55 in room #609. Auditions will take place in room #705. There is a convenient stairway between the sixth and seventh floors. On Wednesday, March 2 from 1:30 PM – 5:30 PM the call is at the Actors’ Equity Audition Center, 165 West 46th St., NYC. Sign-up for auditions begins at 12:30 PMand continues through 5:25.

For “Dracula” and “Biography,” auditions are at the following. On Friday, February 26 from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, at the Actors’ Equity Audition Center, 165 West 46th St., NYC. Sign-up for auditions begins at 8:30 AM, and continues through5:25 PM. On Saturday, March 12, from noon to 4:00 PM, the call will be at the theater’s venue, The First Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes St., Cape May, NJ, which is about a three-and-a-half hour drive south of NYC. Sign-up begins at 11:00 PM and continues through 3:55.

Non-union actors will be seen as long as no Equity actors are kept waiting.

The company operates under an Equity SPT 3 Contract with rehearsals beginningon Monday two weeks before the opening-performance week, and a Wednesdaythrough Saturday night performance schedule, with one exception, which is noted below. Artistic director, Gayle Stahlhuth is directing “Dracula” and “Biography” and will be at all auditions as will stage manager Lee O’Connor. For auditions for “Rodgers’ Romance,” director David-Michael Kenney and musical director Charles Gilbert will also be present. Mr. Gilbert is the accompanist on both audition days for the musical revue.

For “Rodgers’ Romance” prepare a ballad and an up-tempo song by Richard Rodgers; full songs will be heard unless time constraints necessitate a single verse. For “Dracula” and “Biography,” actors are asked to audition with a brief humorous monologue, or read from sides from the plays. Sides will be available at both auditions and a reader will be provided.

The season opener, is “Mr. Lincoln.” This production is returning from last season and is already cast. The other shows are not. The Equity Stage Manager is already hired for the season.

Seeking actors for the following: “Rodgers’ Romance,” a musical revue of songs with music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein, running from June 15 – July 23; “Dracula” written by John L. Barderston and Howard Deane from 1927 running from July 27 – September 3; and “Biography” by S. N. Behrman (1932) about a famous artist who is publishing her memoires, from September 21 – October 15. (Note: for “Biography” there will be no performance onWed. Oct. 5, but an added performance on Sun. Oct. 9 at 7:30 PM).

For Rodgers' Romance, all four performers must be strong singing-actors with appealing onstage personalities and a passion for the classic theater music of Richard Rodgers. Seeking: a YOUNG MAN and a YOUNG WOMAN, both in their 20's, capable of innocence and exuberance but also heartbreak and uncertainty, and a MATURE MAN and a MATURE WOMAN, both in their mid-30's or older, with more appreciation for the pleasures and challenges that come with maturity.

“Dracula”: All have English accents, except Dracula. Seeking: DRACULA: mysterious, polished, distinguished, continental in appearance and manner, speaks with a Central European accent, age range 40-50; MAID: attractive, age range 20-35; HARKER: handsome, direct and excitable, but well-mannered and educated, age range 25-35; DR. SEWARD: a psychiatrist who lives in a world of text books and patients, not a man of action, age range 50-60; RENFIELD: repulsive and a bit mad, a patient of Dr. Seward’s, age range 18-35; BUTTERWORTH: a hospital attendant who is in charge of Renfield, age range 18-35; LUCY: a beautiful woman, very pale, age range 18-25.

“Biography”: Seeking: MARION FROUDE: indomitably alive, internationally known portrait painter living in NYC, age range 30-45; RICHARD KURT: editor of a magazine who wants Marion to write down her story, he has the intensity of the fanatic and the carelessness of the vagabond, age range 25-30; MINNIE: Marion’s inseparable maid, German, age range 50-60; MELCHIOR FEYDAK: a composer, humorist, and a good friend to Marion, age range 40-50; LEANDER NOLAN: from Tennessee, good-looking, running for the U. S. Senate, was in love with Marion and now engaged to Slade, age range 35-50; WARWICK WILSON: handsome, film star, bit of an ego, age range 30-45; ORIN KINNICOTT: a wealthy Westerner, age range 55-60; SLADE KINNICOTT: Orin’s daughter, and Nolan’s fiancé, age range 20-25.
