Casting Chinese national tour of TYA theatre piece Doodle Pop, produced by Zhejiang Grand Boat Culture Development Co. Ltd..
A mischievous duo invites the audience to a delightful doodling world! They experience first sea adventure with a tiny little turtle! All the mysterious creatures that two friends draw and erase come to alive by magic created by projection. What will happen to them in this beautiful but scary watery world, and will they return a turtle to the sea safely? What will happen when we follow their vivid drawings? With live sound effects, stunning animation and an abundance of theatrical imagination, this is a touching and exciting screen show for anyone aged three and older.
Doodle Pop was awarded the Asian Arts Award for Best Comedy in Edinburgh Festival Fringe, 2018.
Character Breakdown:
A: 20-45. male or female, with physical and artistic ability to play a character who loves to dance and draw, an animal lover, a leader of a group but dumber. Performer should have comfort and interest interacting with family audiences and touring internationally. Strong physical performance skills and training required.
B: 20-45, male or female, with physical and artistic ability to play a character who loves to dance and draw, cheeky smartypants but softhearted. Performer should have comfort and interest interacting with family audiences and touring internationally. Strong physical performance skills and training required.
Rehearsal and Production Dates & Locations:
Rehearsal from mid-April; performs May 22-June 14 and early July-aug. 30 in China
Compensation:
Pays $800/wk. guaranteed during touring if the show runs 16 performances or less in one given month.
$200 per additional performance starting the 17th performance that month.
Rehearsal: Pay TBD.
Per diem: $25.
Travel: Economy flights.
Accomodation: Single apartment (cleaned regularly) or hotel when applicable.

Jan 17, 2020 in NYC, by invitation from audition.
For audition, you are expected to prepare a performance piece (less than three mins.) showing any movement/physical theatre skills: dance, acrobatics, mime, or clown, etc. of your choice. If not pre-prepared, a physical exercise will be given on site. Self-preparation piece is preferable. And if you have them, bring original or photos of any drawing you drew previously.
Please submit to casting director Shaotian Cai (caishaotian@shaotiancasting.com) ASAP with your headshot and reusme, and a short cover letter noting your experience/training in physical theatre. This note is mandatory, otherwise you may not be considered for an audition. In addition, please also note your conflicts for both days.
