CASTING BREAKDOWN
KRISTEN: (20-30 yrs old, Soprano/Mezzo Belt (A3-A5)-A young woman of immense talent but with little to no experience. She is a person on the verge of a brilliant career as soon as she exorcises her innocence and builds her self confidence. This is her big break.
JULIAN: (reads 30-45-yrs old Baritenor (D2-F5) – A voice-over artist late in his career. He too is very talented, but never had the drive to push himself to the fame he could have achieved. His early successes were in this very studio, so today is nostalgic as well as exciting. It has been a long time since he has been offered such a good job. He and Diane have a past.
DIANE: (reads 30-45 yrs old. Alto belt (A3-F5) – A woman who has had a good career as a television actress in B roles. She has achieved semi-fame, and if you passed her in the street you would recognize her face, but you wouldn’t remember her name. She wears a sense of entitlement like a crown. She too is pleased to have been called back to this place where her career began, but less than happy to encounter Julian.
NICK (20-30 yrs old, Tenor w/ high belt to B5) – One of the new kids and a heart throb. Unlike Kristen, he is quite aware of his talent. In fact, he is so cock full of himself that until today, he doesn’t believe that he has any more to learn from anyone. He is a good-time guy, and takes his pleasure moment by moment. Today is just another job in a string of jobs that he believes he deserves.
THE QUARTET (20-30 yrs old)
ALICE (Soprano) (A3-D6)
ANDY (Bass/Baritone) (E2-E5)
SARAH (Alto) (A3-E5)
MIKE (Tenor) (A2-B5)
These four are backup singers. Although they are the support, they are the very best. They are as well-adjusted as they are talented. If any of the four Principal singers were unable to perform, they could step up to the mic and fill the spot without missing a beat or a note. As the day progresses, they never hesitate to offer an opinion on the behavior of the other four. MUST be able to hold difficult, solo harmony lines. Experience in acapella groups, choirs etc is key for these roles.
