The 2015/16 Season at DTA
Open to young women ages 12-18.
Auditions begin Sept. 21
Our free programs combine theater, history, and community engagement. Participants are accepted based on auditions and interviews and earn certificates presented at the June graduation.
The 2015/16 stories centers on the role of young people in creating change. There are two themes - race in America and tenant organizing. Each project combines rehearsing, performing, learning about history, connecting history to the present, special trips, and interviews with local leaders.
Our three projects are:
BIRMINGHAM (Oct 1-March 5) - young people face police brutality in the struggle for civil rights
LITTLE ROCK (Oct 2-April 16)- young people act to end school segregation
RENT STRIKE NYC (Feb 25-June 4)- young people organize Lower East Side tenants in the fight for affordable homes
