Auditions for Richard Atkins' and Mark Medoff's new, Holocaust play, DelikateSSen
Saturday, January 24th from 1-4 and Sunday, January 25th from 6-8 p.m.
The Adobe Theater, 9813 4th St., NW Albuquerque
2 blocks North of Alameda Blvd.
Performance Dates: (Fri. & Sat. evenings & Sun. matinees) starting April 3-26th with a special performance on Thursday, April 16th.
Rehearsals beginning the last two weeks in February.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
The cast breakdown is as follows:
DAVID SHAPIRO (main lead) 53, co-owner of Shapiro's delicatessen. An orphan of the Holocaust with a chip, the size of Manhattan on his shoulder. High strung, bitter and authoritative on the outside but loving and sensitive on the inside. The actor must be able to subtlely show multiple facets and colors. Strong Russian dialect a must.
YOSSI SHAPIRO (lead) 47, co-owner of Shapiro's deli, brother to David and an orphan of the Holocaust. Level headed, sympathetic and the voice of reason, though, just as intense a personality as David when pushed to the limit. Strong Russian dialect a must.
RABBI WEISS (CAN DOUBLE FOR YAAKOV ZEIMAN) - mid to late 60's, A good friend to the Shapiro's who tries desperately to thwart David's vendetta towards Germans by appealing to his familial sensitivities. A strong, rational, authoritative presence.
MARIA SCHNEIDER - 65, A woman who has seen it all and is no stranger to trauma, loss and the struggles of the human race to eek out an existence one can be proud of. Is a romantic at heart underneath the gruffness. Single, caring, humorous, realist. A strong German dialect is required.
FRANZ BECKER - 70's, A kind, spirited, worldly man who is cultured, well mannered and an affectionate listener but not one to take deceit lightly. A strong German dialect is required.
SARAH SHAPIRO - 49-55, The strong-willed, fiercely loyal and loving wife of David Shapiro. She has to put up with quite a lot when dealing with David's many moods and sometimes, irrational behavior, though she is a force to be reckoned with. Even with David.
RACHEL SHAPIRO - 17, The curious, bright and determined daughter of David and Sarah Shapiro. She has a very strong bond with her mother, yet an even tighter, albeit rocky relationship with her father. Though he is troubled, she would do anything to alleviate his inner turmoil.
ADAM GINSBERG - 18, The edgy, bad-boy, boyfriend of Rachel Shapiro. Though Rachel realizes that Adam is not the right fit for her, she has, nevertheless fallen in love with him, thus the struggle there between the two, young lovers.
YAAKOV ZEIMAN (CAN DOUBLE FOR RABBI WEISS) early 60's, The cryptic, driven and in-your-face Nazi hunter who headlines his own, weekly television show chronicling his Nazi hunting findings and triumphs. Some sort of European dialect required.
KLAUS REINHARDT - mid 50's, The owner of the German deli across the street from Shapiro's. Reinhardt is a pleasant, mannerly man who is more than up for a challenge or confrontation when challenged or tested. A strong German dialect is required.
