ROLE BREAKDOWN:

FEMALE:

Irene Roth (Supporting):
An overbearing, intelligent, and spoiled society girl. Irene has been engaged to Bobby for five years, and is tired of listening to his dreams about becoming a singer and dancer. Later, she finds herself in love with Lank, and seduces him with a stunning cabaret number. Mezzo-Soprano (Ab4-A#5).

Patricia Fodor (Supporting):
A proper, middle-aged British woman who is journeying with her husband to write a travel guide. Quintessentially English, Patricia is kind and cheerful, if somewhat accustomed to excellent treatment at hotels. She also models the classic English belief of the “stiff upper lip.” Soprano (D#4-F5). The actress must speak in an RP Accent.

Tess (Featured):
A tough-as-nails chorine and one of Bobby’s closest friends in the theatre circuit. Tess often finds herself fending off Bela’s advances, as he is a married man; however, she’s not above using Bela’s love for her to extract favors or cash from him. Mezzo-Soprano/Alto. As a showgirl, the actress must be able to dance, and especially tap dance, extremely well.

Patsy (Featured):
A ditzy chorine and Bobby’s other close friend in the Follies. She is quite supportive of Bobby’s dreams of becoming a dancer, and helps lead the expedition to Deadrock. Soprano/Alto. As a showgirl, the actress must be able to dance, and especially tap dance, extremely well.

Mrs. Lottie Child (Featured)
Bobby’s overbearing but loving mother. Mrs. Child is the president of a bank, and as such is quite wealthy, economically minded, and practical. She actively discourages Bobby’s dreams of being a dancer, instead pushing him to join the family business (and let her continue controlling him). Spoken.

MALE:

Bela Zangler (Supporting):
A flamboyant Eastern-European theatre producer (modeled after the great Flo Ziegfeld). Zangler is hugely successful as a producer, but tends to become easily flustered and overwhelmed by circumstances. He is deeply in love with Tess, and later finds himself involved in a love triangle with Polly and Bobby. Baritone (C3-F4). Dialect required.

Lank Hawkins (Supporting):
The owner of Deadrock’s saloon and hotel. Lance is bad-tempered, with big dreams of revitalizing Deadrock by buying up all of its property (dreams that Polly and Everett repeatedly block). He’s also in love with Polly, but finds himself frustrated by her refusal to sell the theatre. Baritone (E3-G3).

Eugene Fodor (Supporting):
A proper, middle-aged British man who is journeying with his wife to write a travel guide. The picture of English respectability, Eugene is exceptionally polite and proper (if a little spoiled). He also encourages the town to subscribe to the English theory of the “stiff upper lip.” Baritone (D3-F4). The actor must speak in an RP Accent.

Everett Baker (Featured):
Polly’s father and the elderly owner of Deadrock’s theatre/post office. Everett is somewhat stuck in the past, refusing to sell his beloved theatre in the hope that it will someday be restored to its glory days (which he tends to prattle incessantly about). Baritone (C#4-Db3).

CHORUS:

Moose, Mingo, and Sam (Chorus):
A cowboy trio who leads the town of Deadrock in both singing and general laziness. When Bobby comes to town and recruits them to be in his show, they discover hidden talent for music and dancing. Tenor-Bass. Please note that one of the actors must be able to play guitar as well as sing and dance, while the actor playing Moose must be able to play the upright bass and guitar.

Other:
"Crazy for You" has a large chorus with many featured parts, Perkins (Mrs. Child’s assistant), Wyatt and Billy (historical reenactors), and Showgirls. All must be able to sing and move well.
