CITY OF LIGHT - Boiler Room Theatre

CITY OF LIGHT is a new and original light opera set in the Spiritualist community of Lily Dale, New York, at the turn of the last century. The score is compiled from the lesser-known works of Sir Arthur Sullivan (of Gilbert & Sullivan fame) with a libretto by Michael McFaden.

The story follows Molly, a young widow, to Lily Dale as she searches for a medium to help her contact her recently deceased husband. There she is brought into contact with spirit painters, suffragettes, skeptics, and a psychic researcher, all in her efforts to discover the continuity of life after death. City of Light had its initial reading this past March where it placed in the Boiler Room Theatre's Pressure Cooker Festival. A more fully-realized reading will be presented on September 20th at the Boiler Room Theatre in Franklin, TN.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, July 14, from 10AM until noon at the Tulip Street United Methodist Church, 522 Russell Street, Nashville, TN, 37206.

We are looking for strong singers/actors of all vocal ranges for principal and chorus roles. Please prepare one song, preferably in the Gilbert and Sullivan vein. No monologue necessary, though you might be asked to read from the script. Please note, this is a reading, not a full production. Nor is City of Light associated with the Boiler Room Theatre other than as a participant in the festival. Please do not contact the theatre with questions. For further information contact the author at mmcfaden@aol.com.
