CLYBOURNE PARK - City Theatre
Announcing auditions for CLYBOURNE PARK at City Theatre

Audition Dates: February 22 & 24, 2015. Production Dates: April 17-May 3, 2015.

Auditions for CLYBOURNE PARK will take place at City Theatre on February 22 and 24 at 7pm.

Director Keven Renken will conduct auditions with cold readings from the script. Traditionally, a single cast plays dual characters in the first act and second act. However, there is a possibility for casting every single role individually, depending on talent that attends auditions.

Casting information can also be found at City Theatre's website:
www.spcitytheatre.org.

Written by Bruce Norris, CLYBOURNE PARK is the recipient of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and 2012 Tony Award for Best Play. A spin-off of Lorraine Hansberry's A RAISIN IN THE SUN, this razor-sharp new satire takes a provocative look at issues of race, housing, and aspirations for a better life in two acts set fifty years apart. CLYBOURNE PARK begins in 1959 as a black family moves into a white enclave. Act Two takes us back to the same house in 2009 as gentrification sets in and the roles are reversed.

Casting will include the following roles:

4M, 3F or 9M, 6F

RUSS - white, late 40s. Dealing with grief the only way he knows how, by shutting down emotionally. Still fragile, however, and the well-intended meddling of friends and neighbors eventually becomes too much for him.

BEV - married to RUSS, white, 40s. Tries to put a cheerful spin on everything, which is her way of dealing with grief. Though even she cannot overcome the conflict to come. In some ways the typical 1950s housewife, but with undercurrents of strength.

FRANCINE - RUSS and BEV's maid, black, 30s. A quiet observer of things going on around. A woman of infinite patience, but ultimately knows when to draw the line.

JIM - white, late 20s. A youthful minister, well-meaning in his attempts to serve his flock, but new at it so possibly a little in over his head. Can be played for comic relief.

ALBERT - black, 30s. Married to FRANCINE, he almost tries too hard to be nice and helpful. FRANCINE probably actually wears the pants in this family.

KARL - white, 30s. Represents the neighborhood association in trying to talk RUSS and BEV out of selling their house. Comes across as perhaps too aggressive in speaking his mind.

BETSY - white, late 20s. Married to KARL. Deaf and pregnant. Very cheerful. Not slow, but sometimes has trouble keeping up with what's going on around her.

TOM - white, late 20s. Gay real estate agent. Has a sense of humor, but spends a lot of time trying to make everybody happy.

LINDSEY - white, late 20s. Married to STEVE. Visibly pregnant. Has a slight sense of entitlement about her. There is an antagonistic quality to her marriage, even though there is a baby due.

KATHY - white, 40s. Attorney representing the neighborhood association. All business, but friendly.

STEVE - white, 30s. Married to LINDSEY. Sense of entitlement is much more elevated than his wife's is. Has a tendency to be surly and easily irritated.

LENA - black, 30s. Wants to protect the house and its heritage. Absolutely no nonsense - she is not about to suffer any fools wisely.

KEVIN - black, 30s. Married to LENA. Friendly at first glance, but blessed (?) with a trigger temper, and willing to defend LENA at the drop of a hat.

DAN - white, late 40s. One of those high school/college jock types who segued into a career as a construction worker and contractor.

KENNETH - white, early-mid 20s. Troubled young Korean War veteran.
