The Illyrian Players Theatre Co. is holding auditions this month for their Summer production of Cloud 9 by Caryl Churchill. Carly D. Weckstein, the Founding Artistic Director of The Illyrian Players, will be directing. This darkly funny, disturbing and moving play explores sexual and gender roles between a web of human beings. We are looking for actors who are passionate about telling this story, as well as a costume designer and a stage manager. Auditions and interviews will be held on March 24th from 1:30pm to 8:30pm at the UCLA Sculpture Garden in Westwood and on March 25th from 1:30pm to 8:30pm at the Bookhouse in Silver Lake (2722 Auburn St., Los Angeles CA 90039). Breakdown: Clive, a colonel administrator Betty, his wife, played by a man Joshua, his black servant, played by a white Edward, his son, played by a woman Maud, his mother-in-law Ellen, Edward’s governess Henry Bagley, an explorer Mrs. Saunders, a widow Betty (in Act 2), now played by a woman Edward (in Act 2), her son, now played by a man Victoria, her daughter Martin, Victoria’s husband Lin, a lesbian, single mother Cathy, Lin’s daughter, age 5, played by a man Gerry, Edward’s lover Seeking 4 Men and 3 Women. The characters from Act 1 (Clive, Berry, Joshua, Edward, Maud, Ellen, Henry Bagley, Mrs. Saunders, and Ellen) double as the characters from Act 2 (Betty, Edward, Victoria, Martin, Lin, Cathy, and Gerry). All actors will be required to do a British accent. All actors should be able to sing or play a musical instrument. Please bring any contemporary monologue you love, preferably in a British accent. Prepare one song that you love. If you play an instrument please bring it. There will be no accompanist provided.
