CALLBACKS: Wednesday, July 12, 2023 - 7-9 p.m.

No appointments necessary.

Please come prepared with two prepared songs that show off your vocal range. One of the songs can be from the show. While the songs can be anything that shows you off well, it is recommended that songs be chosen from musical theater, rock, or pop genres. Segments should be about 45 seconds long, or roughly a verse and a chorus. An accompanist will be available (please bring sheet music) or you may bring a pre-recorded instrumental track.

Please note that, while not required for any particular character, we are seeking to have several members of the cast, both named characters and ensemble, that can play instruments. If you play any instrument, please let us know at auditions. If you would like to bring a small instrument to demonstrate, that would be helpful.

Script readings and movement auditions will be held at callbacks.

Video submissions are NOT accepted. Headshots & resumes are not required, but gladly accepted.

Play Synopsis:
This highly acclaimed musical develops the ancient and distinguished game of chess into a metaphor for romantic rivalries and East-West political intrigue. The principal pawns form a love triangle: the loutish American Grandmaster, the earnest Russian champion and the Hungarian-American female chess second, who arrives at the international championships with the American but falls for the Russian. From Tyrol to Thailand the players, lovers, politicians, CIA and KGB make their moves to the pulse of this monumental rock score.

While CHESS has been rewritten over the years, we are using the MTI Licensed Version that is listed as the London Stage Version.
