Seeking non-equity actors who identify with the themes of the show. Small stipend available. PLOT SUMMARY The story centers on a family of three Black women, a grandmother, a mother, and a daughter, and their community in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in New Orleans. Featuring musical styles ranging from New Orleans styles jazz to hip-hop and musical theatre, the story explores themes of Southern Blackness, incarceration, and community healing. CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS Eloise (Lead): Female, 17-26 Jazz singer. Lives with her grandma, Magnolia, and her mother, Marie. Ready to take on the world. Mags (Lead): Female, 50+ Eloise’s grandmother. Everybody knows who Mags is and is very fond of her. She is strong and in charge. Marie (Lead): Female, 29-49 Eloise’s mother. A newly widowed single mother. She wants what is best but she is overworked and carries a lot of the emotional burden of the show. Tomás (Lead): Male, 18-30 Jazz singer/rapper. Formerly imprisoned person who is trying to catch a break. He finds renewed hope in Eloise's passion for singing. Carrie (Supporting): 18-35 Spunky with a lot of physical energy. Part of Donovan's crew. Wants to escape the city. Donovan (Supporting): Male, 22-44 Rapper. Done with being stereotyped for having been imprisoned before Hurricane Katrina. Committed a petty crime but tries to break the cycle. Frank: Male, 15-23 Sabine's older brother. Young man who fell into Donovan's crew. He is torn between being there for his little sister who is full of hope and wanting to fit in with the older crowd. Hank (Supporting): Male, 40+ Owns the local pop-up bar. Moves a little more slowly but has many fond, vivid memories of growing up in New Orleans. Henrietta (Supporting): Female, 30+ Full of love and support for the community. She is an older aunt-figure and wise. She likes to have dance to live jazz and appreciates bringing noise back to the city. Sabine (Supporting): Female, 8-16 Frank's little sister. She is full of life and hope for the new growth of the city and keeps the youthful spirit alive.
