Brief Synopsis:
A snowstorm leaves weary bus passengers holed up at a roadside diner over night. Cherie is being pursued by a headstrong cowboy in love who’s ready to sling her over his shoulder and carry her, alive and kicking, all the way to Montana to marry him. A classic comedy about the relationships between people on the journey of life, with a cast of characters struggling to love themselves and each other.
Roles: 5 men, 3 women
Grace: The owner of the restaurant that serves as the Bus Stop. Kind, but lonely. Female, late 20s-50s, any ethnicity.
Elma: A waitress and high school student. Book smart, yet naive and easily flattered. Female, seeking an adult actor to play a teenager, any ethnicity.
Will: The sheriff. A strong and morally upright man. Male, late 20s-50s, any ethnicity.
Cherie: A beautiful blonde night club singer from the city. Sexually aware, but meek and hasn't discovered for herself if love is real. Female, 19, any ethnicity. Must be able to sing.
Carl: the bus driver. A bit of a ladies' man. Male, 30s-50s, any ethnicity.
Dr. Lyman: A drifter with a vile secret. A former college professor from back east. He's an alcoholic fleeing his past sins with a penchant for teenage girls. Right or wrong he's always had to have everything his own way, yet his whole life has seemed a disappointment. Male, 30s-60s, any ethnicity.
Bo: A cowboy in love with Cherie. Physically attractive but not too bright. He's got a tender side, but he doesn't know how to show it. Male, 21, any ethnicity.
Virgil: Another cowboy. Smarter and sweeter than Bo, perhaps a bit more experienced. Male, 40s, any ethnicity. Must be able to play guitar.
All roles are available.
Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Actors wishing to be considered for Cherie may sing 16 bars of a 1950s era song a cappella. Actors wishing to be considered for Virgil may play 16 bars of a song on guitar (an instrument will not be provided).
