On both Wednesday, Sept 25 and Monday, Sept 30 from 5:30-9pm, the Provincetown Theater will hold open auditions for non-union performers for the final show of their 2024 season, John Cariani’s Almost, Maine. Director David Drake seeks a large cast of 10-16 performers of men and women, ranging in age from 18-70 for this classic romantic comedy about connection, community, and the magic meanings of the Northern Lights in a sparsely populated town in upstate Maine during one snowy winter night.
Auditions for Almost, Maine will be held at the company’s playhouse at 238 Bradford Street in Provincetown, MA. Along with a wide age-range for the cast, the theater especially encourages BIPOC performers, as well as trans and non-binary performers to audition.
As a play, Almost, Maine is structured as a series of nine vignettes that all take place in the Far North New England hamlet known as “Almost, Maine.” Each vignette involves two actors. In production, while each actor will definitely perform in one vignette, it’s also possible some may be double cast to perform two different roles in two separate vignettes. Overall, the citizens of this region are blue-collar working-folk who’re vigilantly seeking to ward off loneliness and make the best of their isolated situation – both geographically and emotionally.
