South Bend Civic Theatre announces auditions for Avenue Q July 7-8!
Auditions for South Bend Civic Theatre’s production of the musical Avenue Q will be July 7-8 from 6-9 PM at the Scottish Rite building located at 427 N. Main St. South Bend (across the parking lot from SBCT).
Avenue Q is a hilarious modern musical that explores a group of fascinating characters making their way in a big city with big problems. In this world, puppets are people too and long to find their purpose in life. With music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Whitty and book by Jeff Whitty, this winner of the Best Musical Tony will have you laughing and loving with the unforgettable residents of Avenue Q.
Performances for Avenue Q run September 12-28 in the Warner Studio Theatre. In the event of high demand, performances may be added at any time during the run. Please bring all known conflicts from July 7th through September 28 (include all unavailable dates and times regardless of weekday, weekend, holiday, etc.).
9 adult actors needed; all must sing. Due to mature themes, all actors must be 18 years of age or older. Auditions will consist of songs and readings from the show as well as minor puppet manipulation. All music, sides and puppetry will be provided. No previous puppetry experience necessary, extensive puppet training will be provided during the rehearsal process to those cast.

Gary Coleman (30–40, Female, alto)
Note: Traditional doubling of Princeton and Rod as well as Kate and Lucy will be cast with separate actors. Gary Coleman, while written for a female, will be considered for both male (tenor) and female (alto) actors.
South Bend Civic Theatre, an award-winning and nationally ranked theatre, is the oldest continuously operating community theatre company in the South Bend/Mishawaka area. Founded in 1957, it staged most of its productions from 1968 to 2007 at The Firehouse, a local historic landmark located at 701 Portage Ave., in the city’s historic Park Avenue neighborhood. Since the beginning of 2007, SBCT’s 50th Anniversary year, SBCT’s productions have been held in their newly renovated, state-of-the-art, theatre located at 403 N. Main St. SBCT features the 209 seat Wilson Main Stage Auditorium and 90 seat versatile “black-box” Warner Studio Theatre. SBCT also performs in many other venues in the region including the Bendix Theatre at Century Center and the Battell Center in Mishawaka.
South Bend Civic Theatre productions feature volunteer actors drawn from the Michiana region. Directors attempt to schedule rehearsals around individual conflicts as best they can. SBCT welcomes and encourages actors of all experience levels, from novices eager to get the acting bug to seasoned veterans, to their auditions. SBCT is also committed to reflecting the diversity of the community and encourages and welcomes actors of all backgrounds to audition.
