Sarasota Opera Announces a “Super” Casting Call
Sarasota Opera is seeking a limited number of enthusiastic outgoing people to volunteer as supernumeraries, or “supers”, the non-singing extras in opera productions, for its 2016 Winter Festival Season production of Aida by Giuseppe Verdi. Supers will assume a variety of roles assigned by the stage director Stephanie Sundine. Age range for these characters is from young adult to 65. At this time we are looking for men only.

gtrupiano@sarasotaopera.org to schedule an interview with stage director Stephanie Sundine. Interviews will be on Thursday, November 19th, from 6:30pm – 7:30pm at the Sarasota Opera House.
To be considered for a super role, you must:
· Must be taller than 5’ 2”
· Be physically fit
· Be able to perform onstage without glasses
· Be able to walk on slopes and stairs
· Be able to wear elaborate and sometimes very heavy costumes
· Be able to see in both dim and bright light
· Men must be willing to shave
Rehearsals will be in the evenings in January of 2016 and will NOT be every night. There will be 12 performances total beginning on January 30 and concluding on March 19th.
This is the first time Sarasota Opera will present Verdi’s Aida and will be the biggest production in the company’s 57 year history. The 2016 Winter Opera Festival will mark the conclusion of Sarasota Opera’s 28 year Verdi Cycle making it the only company in the world to have performed all of the music of Giuseppe Verdi.

Sarasota Opera makes its home in the historic Sarasota Opera House which has been referred to as “one of America’s finest venues for opera” by the prestigious Musical America. Originally built in 1926 as the A.B. Edwards Theater, the building was purchased by the opera company in 1979 and officially raised its curtain as the Sarasota Opera House in 1984. From 2007-2008, the building underwent a $20-million top-to-bottom renovation and restoration. The intimate scale of the theater (with 1,119 seats) and its excellent acoustics make it the perfect place to experience the magic of opera.
