A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM - Gulfshore Playhouse

Gulfshore Playhouse, Naples’ premiere professional theatre, is now holding auditions for its Teen Acting Company, an opportunity for teens 13 to 18 to perform William Shakespeare’s comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” receive pre-professional training in acting, voice and movement, attend professional performances and talkbacks, and work with visiting artists.

Teen Acting Company students will be selected based on the potential to develop artistically and personally within a professional theatre environment. Auditions are Sunday, Dec. 3 and Monday, Dec. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. To sign up for an audition, call 239-261-7529, ext. 207.

The program is an opportunity for teens to become part of a professional theatre, see a full professional season, learn from guest artists, and develop classical acting technique skills including Stanislavski-based work with intention and tactics; textual analysis and research development; understanding of the social rules and mores of a specific time period; stage movement techniques, possibly including Renaissance dance, stage combat, commedia dell’arte technique, and Lecoq technique; ensemble development; and voice training.

The Teen Acting Company rehearses twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. from Jan. 8 to May 11. The program concludes with performances of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” on Monday, May 14 at 7 p.m. on the Gulfshore Playhouse stage.

The tuition for Gulfshore Playhouse Education’s Teen Acting Company is $600 and includes attendance at all Gulfshore Playhouse shows. Limited need-based scholarships are available.

Gulfshore Playhouse is committed to enriching the cultural landscape of the region by producing professional theatre to the highest artistic standards, and providing unique educational opportunities to diverse groups of people in a spirit of service, adventure, and excitement. Gulfshore Playhouse’s work is inspired by a belief in the magic of theater to expand the imagination, challenge the senses, provoke discussion, and revitalize in the audience an understanding of common humanity. This belief drives the respect with which Gulfshore Playhouse treats its artists, audiences, students, staff, and members of the greater community. This focus is also at the core of its newest endeavor – the creation of a landmark facility in downtown Naples. Plans are currently underway for Gulfshore Playhouse’s new 56,000-square-foot complex at Goodlette-Frank Road and First Avenue South on the northern end of The Shoppes at Naples Square that will include two theaters and an education wing to support programming for children, adults and families.
