Nora Helmer – The “doll” of the play. A young woman with three children. Very pretty, excitable, and, at times, childlike.
Torvald Helmer – Nora’s husband, a bank manager. A man of his time: conservative, traditional. Pays little attention to his children, treats Nora as a pet.
Dr. Rank – The Helmers’ best friend. Cynical, unwell.
Nils Krogstad – Torvald’s employee. Dark-hearted, embittered.
Kristine Linde – A school friend of Nora’s who has lived a harder life. More down-to-earth and honest than Nora.
Helene – The Helmers’ maid. Older than Nora.
Anne Marie – The Nursemaid. A kind nanny. Nora’s age or younger.
The Porter – Man who brings the Helmers their Christmas tree.
The Helmer children – One boy, two girls. The younger and smaller, the better.
