A CHRISTMAS STORY
Adapted by Phillip Grecian from the movie written by Jean Shepherd
Presented by Special Arrangement with Dramatic Publishing
Directed by Eva Knowles
Humorist Jean Shepherd's memoir of growing up in the midwest in the 1940s follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder 200-Shot Carbine Action Range Model Air Rifle under the tree for Christmas. But whenever he pleads his case before the adults in his life, the response is You'll shoot your eye out! All the elements from the beloved motion picture are here, including the family's temperamental exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the boys' experiment with a wet tongue on a cold flagpole; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin; Ralphie's father winning a “major award”; and more!
This adaptation of
A CHRISTMAS STORY by Phillip Grecian is Surfside’s presentation for the Christmas season, and we are thrilled to announce that it will be directed by our Youth Players director, Eva Knowles!
Produced by special arrangement with
THE DRAMATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY of Woodstock, Illinois. Caution: Contains PG-rated language.

GYPSY
By Arthur Laurents, Jule Styne, and Stephen Sondheim
Directed by Bryan Bergeron; Musical Direction by John Kurowski
Note: This musical takes the place of Guys and Dolls, for which the license rights were withdrawn due to a national professional tour.
Gypsy is the ultimate story about an aggressive stage mother. Join Rose and her daughters June and Louise in their trip across the United States during the 1920′s, when vaudeville is dying, burlesque is growing, and Rose demands nothing less than superstardom from her daughters even as her desperation and ruthlessness drives this family further apart. This is a gripping story of one of the most frightening aspects of show business.
Gypsy has been adapted into two movies and revived four times on Broadway since its original run. It has been described by
New York Times theatre critics Clive Barnes, Ben Brantley and Frank Rich as one of the greatest American musicals. Jule Styne’s music and Stephen Sondheim’s lyrics include
Let Me Entertain You, Some People, You’ll Never Get Away from Me, If Momma Was Married, All I Need Is the Girl, Everything’s Coming Up Roses, You Gotta Get A Gimmick and
Together Wherever We Go. Presented by special arrangement with
Tams-Witmark.
