25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee - Chestnut Street Playhouse (Formerly Spirit of Broadway Theater)
spirit_broadway_logo The Chestnut Street Playhouse is seeking Connecticut actors as it continues the 2015 season, “What Does it Mean to…?” with The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Discover What it Means to Achieve in this hilarious and touching Tony Award and Drama Desk Award winning production. Director: Kyle Reynolds Musical Director: Kelly Sharp Rehearsals for the production will begin July 6 and last through the month of July. Please provide any conflicts during the months of July and August at auditions. Production dates: August 13, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, & 23 Auditions will be held on Friday June 12th from 4:00pm thru 10:00pm at: The Chestnut Street Playhouse (formerly The Spirit of Broadway Theater) 24 Chestnut Street Norwich, CT Callbacks will be held as needed on Saturday, June 13th from 6:00 pm thru 10:00pm. What is needed for auditions? Two songs in the style of the show, 32 bars each. Preferably one Comedic and one Dramatic. A Third choice from the show would be helpful but not required. Sheet music for your songs in your preferred key. An accompanist will be provided Headshot and Resume. If you do not have a headshot, a picture will be taken at auditions. Character Breakdowns: CHIP TOLENTINO - Male. Tenor. Strong belter/mixer (High B flat). Last years champion. Going through puberty. Must be comfortable with mildly obscene language. Looking for comedic actor who can sing extremely well. LEAF CONEYBEAR - Male. Baritenor. A.D.D. Character voices. Home-schooled, over-shadowed by other siblings. Spells from the confines of a trance. Doubles as one of Logainne's Dad's. Looking for comedic actor who can sing well. Must be able to act the part. Be Creative. LOGAINNE SCHWARTZANDGRUBENIERRE - Female. Soprano. Youngest competitor and most politically correct. Has two gay Dad's. Anxious. Lisp. Writes word on her arm before spelling. Must be comedic. Comedic timing is important. Firm. Strong. Passionate. OLIVE OSTROVSKY - Female. Soprano. Strong voice (High G). New to competition. Naive. Soft spoken. Loner, but friendly. Spends a lot of her time alone. Dictionary is her best friend. Speaks into her hand before spelling. Looking for the girl next door who has a passion for spelling. WILLIAM BARFEE - Male. Tenor. Know-it-all. Physically funny. Also competed the previous year. Spells out words with his foot. Comedic timing is a must. Must be able to successfully improv on the spot. Must be able to play sarcastic with a soft spot. MARCY PARK - Female. Soprano/Mezzo-soprano. Over-acheiver, speaks six languages. Blazé personality. Actor must be flexible, athletic and good dancer. Willingness to learn a must, ability to play piano a plus. Gymnastics a plus. Must sing well. RONA LISA PERETTI - Female. Adult. Mezzo with Strong Belt. Strong jazz mix. Host of the bee, former competitor (3rd annual). Color commentation throughout bee. Ad libbing a plus. Doubles as Olive's Mom. Comedic timing is critical. Must be able to sing extremely well. MITCH MAHONEY - Male. Adult. Tenor. Strong voice. Official Comfort Counselor. Gritty, street-smart. Doubles as Olive's Dad and one of Logainne's Dad's. Stern but comedic. DOUGLAS PANCH - Male. Adult. Non-singing/baritone. Can talk-sing through songs. Mildly insane. Infatuated with Rona Lisa. Must be able to successfully improv on the spot. Responsible for the energy of the show. Comedic timing is critical.
