Aspiring Young Dancers Will Have The Opportunity To Audition For The Chance To Participate In The Rockettes Summer Intensive And Train Alongside
The Radio City Rockettes In New York City
The Radio City Rockettes announced the dates and cities where local dancers can audition for the 2019 Rockettes Summer Intensive, which is held each summer in New York City. Now entering its 18th year, the Rockettes Summer Intensive offers aspiring dancers the unique opportunity to train alongside some of the legendary Rockettes as well as a Rockettes director/choreographer and learn their signature precision dance technique. Since the program began in 2001, more than 75 participants have been hired as Radio City Rockettes.
Auditions for the 2019 Rockettes Summer Intensive begin on Saturday, January 12, 2019 and run through Sunday, February 3. The auditions will be held in New York City; Orlando, FL; Cleveland, OH; Atlanta, GA; Oklahoma City, OK; Dallas, TX; College Park, MD; Los Angeles, CA; Tuscaloosa, AL; Detroit, MI; Chicago, IL and Pittsburgh, PA. The Rockettes Summer Intensive is a pivotal program for dancers who want to learn and train in the Rockettes style of precision dance. This distinctive style transcends a multitude of dance disciplines, including ballet, jazz, tap, musical theater, lyrical and the legendary kickline, but dancers with experience in all types of dance are encouraged to audition. The program curriculum focuses on original tap and jazz choreography from the Rockettes repertoire, including choreography performed in the annual production of the Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes, presented by Chase, and culminates in a student showcase performance at a New York City theater.
The Rockettes Summer Intensive includes seven weeklong sessions that take place between June 16 – August 2, 2019. Dancers accepted into the program will each participate in one weeklong session in New York City at the rehearsal space where the Rockettes rehearse for their annual starring role in the Christmas Spectacular. Rehearsals run daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with group education seminars in the evenings. To be considered for the Rockettes Summer Intensive, dancers must be at least 15 years of age (by June 16, 2019) with a minimum of five years training in tap, jazz, and ballet. All dancers hoping to be accepted to the 2019 Rockettes Summer Intensive must attend a live audition in 2019 or submit a 2019 video audition, both of which are free. Please note, all live auditions require pre-registration.
