Want to experience Dungeons & Dragons without doing all that math? Is watching a wizard fight a shapeshifting dragon on your Must-See list? Then Can I Get an Underground Location and a Mythical Creature? is for you! Experience an improvised fantasy adventure entirely made up on the spot and entirely controlled by the dice.
 

This smash-hit show is coming to Basement for the very first time, after selling out 5 previous seasons including the NZ International Comedy Festival and the New Zealand Improv Festival.
 

This isn’t a show where you watch people play D&D – this is a show where you watch characters themselves in a D&D story. Follow along for a tale filled with adventure and surprise, with the heroes' fates in the hands of the dice and the audience. Whether you’ve played D&D since you were five, only know it from watching Stranger Things or just enjoy improv and laughter – come along!
 

Can I Get an Underground Location and a Mythical Creature? is suitable for adventurers of all ages 8 and over. The evening performances are at 8pm. For families with children, we recommend coming along to our Saturday matinee performance.

Content Warnings
This show is fully improvised. The host/dungeon master will be interacting with the audience by asking people to roll a large dice. If you don’t want to be interacted with we will have "opt out of audience interactions" lanyards available in the foyer. If you are wearing one of the lanyards you won't be asked to roll the dice. You are also welcome to say 'no thankyou' to a request to roll the dice at any time.

Relaxed performance- Saturday 3:30pm
Pre-show demonstration: 3:15pm in the Theatre
Open to all, our relaxed performance may be especially welcomed by neurodivergent audience members. Our usual show plus bonus features- learn about the lights, sounds, surprises and action in the pre-show demonstration, have freedom to come and go, and access a breakout space to enjoy the show in your own way.

Touch Tours
Touch Tours are available for blind and low vision audience and companions prior to our Friday evening and Saturday matinee shows, to explore the set, costumes, and props. This highly auditory, storytelling show will not be audio described.
Friday 7:30pm and Saturday 2:45pm
