The CarniVal May be booked out, but there's performance every day in the gallery, with the group of dancers from South Australia, led by Alison Currie, in the performance 42a, the dance of the home.

Gallery: 42a
Alison Currie
Until 23 October

Over the years, many people have walked into this gallery and said they'd like to move in - well the interactive installation 42a is firmly in residence, with the basics of a share house - a fridge, a beanbag, a grungy sink - and a pile of packing boxes in the corner.

They're a friendly group, willing and able to respond to anything you may say or do, with a spontaneous mini-dance, or a chat. Melbourne audiences have seemed just a bit tentative in comparison with Brisbane and Sydney, so come in and enjoy a very human gallery experience!

42a will conduct a workshop on the final Saturday of the exhibition, October 23rd, between 2.30 and 3.30 pm Entry is free at all times.
Next week another intriguing collaborative work moves in, a multi artform installation with a fantasy garden theme, will transform the gallery.

Gallery: In the Shed
The Artful Dodgers Studios
Tuesday 26 October to Saturday 6 November 10

fortyfivedownstairs will be transformed using large scale collaborative pieces and individual artwork from the studios' young artists. The space will become an evocative sensory experience through the artists' creative interpretations of what exactly it is we keep tucked away in our garden sheds.

The young artists are part of a community cultural development program run by Jesuit Social Services since 1995.

Performance: Carnival of Mysteries
Finucane & Smith

The Carnival of Mysteries has been an extraordinary success, although we ought to expect that now from any production by Finucane and Smith, producers of the wonderful Burlesque Hour series of productions, seen at fortyfivedownstairs almost every year since 2004.

We should be a bit blasé about the crowds after all these years, but it continues to be a thrill to see all those happy and excited faces (apologies to those of you who have missed out). All shows have sold out.

Dates: Until 30 October 2010 (season sold out)
Times: Various times, see perfomance schedule online (pdf)

Do not despair! Carnival closes on Saturday October 30, but Burlesque Hour returns in its full glory in June next year..... if you know where you'll be in mid-June 2011, you can book now, and benefit from the early bird special!

Early Bird Special: Full $40, Concession $35
Book online or call 03 9662 9966
Limited time only!

Following the Carnival of Mysteries, November brings even more cutting edge theatre to fortyfivedownstairs.
