A THOUSAND HILLS is a journey from the heart of Africa to the South Pacific. It is a story based on the true life experiences of a New Zealand Red Cross volunteer and a Rwandan refugee, during the turbulent months following the Rwandan genocide of 1994. A THOUSAND HILLS explores how these two men meet in a Red Cross refugee camp, and how their relationship and experiences take them to the very heart of this African darkness all the way to New Zealand. Drenched in music and spirits of an ancient past, A THOUSAND HILLS is a gripping adventure into a vast landscape and journey of cross cultural currents, history and politics. A THOUSAND HILLS is a unique and potent story where New Zealand and African cultures collide. A story fuelled by impossible circumstances, loss of identity, terrifying consequences, a story of how two people find that the only thing left is to trust each other.
This is a co-production between TAPAC & houseofhudson.
