Due to popular demand, the season of Roy Smiles' new comedy BACKSTAGE is being extended at The Forge at The Court Theatre, through Saturday 5 December.

The farcical comedy follows the colliding crises of a 1930s vaudevillian family and has been a smash hit with critics and audiences alike and demand for tickets has soared. Additional performances for BACKSTAGE have been added until December 5th to cope with demand.

Artistic Director of The Court Theatre and director of BACKSTAGE, Ross Gumbley, is thrilled with the response. "We are once again privileged to be the first theatre in the world putting on Roy Smiles' latest masterpiece. Roy is a comic genius and his script combined with the spectacular cast has been theatrical dynamite. The public response has given us the best problem any theatre company can have:  trying to figure out how to fit everyone in."

The additional performances for BACKSTAGE are on sale now at The Court Theatre Box Office and can be booked on 963 0870 or www.theforge.org.nz.

BACKSTAGE EXTENDED SEASON DATES AND TIMES:
Monday 30 November                    6:30pm
Tuesday  1 December                     8pm
Wednesday 2 December                 8pm
Thursday 3 December                    6pm
Friday 4 December                         6pm
Saturday 5 December                     8pm

This is the second season in 2009 that The Court has extended; the first being FOUR FLAT WHITES IN ITALY.

The extended season of BACKSTAGE will not impact on the performance dates of A VERY MERRY SCRIPTLESS by The Court Jesters (opening on December 3). Both shows will use the same set at different times each night – meaning on December 4th and 5th four productions will be staged at The Court (BACKSTAGE, ANYTHING GOES, A VERY MERRY SCRIPTLESS and SCARED SCRIPTLESS).

BACKSTAGE has had over 97% attendance to date and at the time the decision to extend the season was made last week, less than 1,000 seats were available for purchase.
