Tickets for North Shore Music Theatre's June season of 'THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE' are now on sale with performances starting June 9 through to 23, 2012.

Directed by Sherrin Scelly, with choreography by Val Hemphill, and musical direction by Robin Kelly. Starring Melinda Joe as Millie, and the long awaited return to the stage for Grant Meese as the leading man, Jimmy.

THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE is a high-spirited musical romp that has all of New York dancing the Charleston. Its the zany new 1920s musical that has taken Broadway by storm! The music is by Jeanine Tesori, lyrics by Dick Scanlan, and a book by Richard Morris and Scanlan.

Based on the 1967 film of the same name, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE tells the story of a small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love a thoroughly modern aim in 1922, when women were just entering the workforce. Millie soon begins to take delight in the flapper lifestyle, but problems arise when she checks into a hotel owned by the leader of a slavery ring in China. The style of the musical is comic pastiche.

Inspired by Richard Morris' Original Story and 1967 Screenplay. Taking place in New York City in 1922, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself. Its a New York full of intrigue and jazz - a time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behavior were changing forever. Based on the popular movie, the stage version of THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE includes a full score of new songs and bright dance numbers.

Filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a dragon-lady of a villainess audiences will love to hate, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE is a perfectly constructed evening of madcap merriment. And with the role of Millie Dillmount, musical theatre has found a new heroine for the ages in THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE.

Tickets start at $20 and are available from www.iticket.co.nz.
