MAMMA MIA! to Open at Auckland's Civic Theatre, March 2014

The global smash-hit MAMMA MIA! will open in March 2014 at the Civic Theatre in Auckland, then moves on to a town near you! A mother. A daughter. Three possible dads. And a trip down the aisle you'll never forget!

Over 54 million people all around the world have fallen in love with the characters, the story and the music that make MAMMA MIA! the ultimate feel-good musical.

For this first time in the life of MAMMA MIA!, this New Zealand production will be presenting a completely new design of set and costumes by John Harding (Home by Christmas, Until Proven Innocent, Rocky Horror Show, West Side Story) and Lesley Burkes-Harding (Home by Christmas, Out of the Blue, Rocky Horror Show, West Side Story).

Writer Catherine Johnson's sunny, funny tale unfolds on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter's quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother's past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago. The story-telling magic of ABBA's timeless songs propels this enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship, and every night everyone's having the time of their lives!

Featuring 22 of ABBA's hits including CHIQUITITA, DANCING QUEEN, I HAVE A DREAM, KNOWING ME, KNOWING YOU, THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL, SUPER TROUPER, TAKE A CHANCE ON ME and VOULEZ-VOUS, MAMMA MIA! is a global phenomenon.

Producer Judy Craymer was first inspired to create a musical using the music of ABBA to tell an original story in 1987.

"The New Zealand Musical Theatre Consortium is excited to bring this re-imagined production of Mamma Mia! to New Zealand audiences, continuing on from previous productions of Hairspray, Miss Saigon and most recently Phantom of the Opera," says Lesley Carthew-Reid, Chair of the Mamma Mia! NZ Consortium.
