From the 18 schools entered, Cashmere High School, Christ's College, St Thomas of Canterbury College and St Andrew's College have made it to the final showdown for the Senior Theatresports Trophy. Emma Brittenden, The Court Theatre's Education Manager, is looking forward to seeing these schools take the stage together. "Every show so far has been incredibly entertaining and these teams are the best of the best - it will be a phenomenal final."
Theatresports is competitive performance where teams of four performers create short scenes based on audience suggestions, combining acting skills with quick-thinking. The result is a uniquely entertaining theatrical experience. 2009's competition has been "teams' strongest year yet" according to Brittenden. The Court is also host to a Junior High School Theatresports competition, which will run from November 1 - November 29.
Theatresports in Schools is a long-established cultural competition enjoying almost two decades of performance in Christchurch. Many of The Court Jesters (The Court Theatre's improvisation troupe who perform Scared Scriptless every Friday and Saturday night) began their professional careers through the school competition. Audiences are encouraged to keep an eye out for the performers they see at the finals -"for many of them, this is only the beginning".
The Senior Theatresports Final begins at 7pm Sunday 20 September. All tickets are $10.
