I don't want to say too much about Manukau Performing Arts' current production of In the Heights.
That's because you really need to go see it yourself and have first hand experience of this great show.
It's fabulous!
While I knew a little about this 2008 Tony award winning Lin-Manuel Miranda musical, I enjoyed the delicious surprises that unfolded as I sat throughly entertained by a delectable menu of beautifully presented musical theatre.
The Creative Team, led by Director Adam Spedding, have done a top job of putting this high energy show together.
The choreography (Nomi Cohen) totally represents the hip-hop fusion style music and the singing is just fabulous. Co-Musical Directors Josh Clark and Andy Manning have produced work that encapsulates the music genres superbly.
The cast, well, that cast! Fifteen high energy, charismatic, talented performers captivated the audience and received a well deserved standing ovation they on opening night. They are simply stunning. Accolades to them all; Joe Nathan, Bridie Dixon, John Bower, Lana MacFarlane, Olly Humphries, Tessa Rao, Akshay Bela, Rachel Vaipa, Maria Va'a, Luna Oliveira, Giovanni Huch Mamea, Josh Clark, Meg Hargraves, Deehan Morgado and Jeremy Downing.
The set is not only a visual delight but also keeps the show moving along as walls open to reveal other scenes. Adapted by builder Chris Scott and based by a design by Hamish McGregor it totally rocks.
I'd love to tell you more but I'm off to my 'Salsa for Beginners' class. This is what In the Heights will do for you.... a new lease on life and the best way to get over the mid-winter blues.
In the Heights runs through until Saturday 22nd July. Wednesday 12th is booked out so don't be tardy or you risk missing out!
