Youth Auditions Held for JPAS Theatre Kids! Aristocats 2/11

Are you a Theatre Kid? JPAS will hold auditions for the musical Disney's Aristocats, Kids (Music and Lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman and Al Rinker and Floyd Huddleston . Music Adapted and Arranged and Additional Music and Lyrics by Bryan Louiselle . Book Adapted and Additional Lyrics by Michael Bernard . Based on the 1970 Disney Film THE ARISTOCATS) on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Westwego Performing Arts Theatre, 177 Sala Avenue in Westwego, for kids 7-12 years of age. Auditions are by appointment only! Please call 504-885-2000 ext. 202 to schedule a 5 minute audition slot.

Kids and parents should download an audition packet with helpful info and rehearsal schedule* at www.jpas.org (click on Theatre Kids! under the Education/Outreach menu) prior to the audition. PLEASE FILL OUT THE FORM AND BRING WITH YOU TO THE AUDITION!

Kids should come prepared to read a short poem provided in the audition packet and sing a Disney song of their choice a Capella. Kids are asked to bring a current photograph. There is no enrollment fee to participate in this production!
Rehearsals will be held in the evenings and on weekends beginning February 28 at the Westwego Performing Arts Theatre, 177 Sala Avenue in Westwego. Performances will be weekends at the Westwego Performing Arts Theatre April 1-10, Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30PM, Saturdays & Sunday matinees at 2PM, with special matinees for school groups March 31 & April 1 at 9:45am and 11:15am. Matias Grau III directs this cast of all-kids! *Please note, in order to allow the most kids to participate in this program, this production will be double-cast. This is a JPAS Theatre Kids! Production and not included in season subscriptions.

The JPAS THEATRE KIDS! program began in Fall 2008. This program gives kids year-round opportunities to participate in theatre, experience the process of putting on a show as well as learning basic acting techniques and skills. There is no enrollment fee to participate and auditions for Theatre Kid! productions are held two months prior to performances. JPAS believes kids' enthusiasm and energy really invigorate the arts. Theatre Kids! activities give young people a chance to have fun with theatre, thus nurturing a life-long love of the arts.

More About the Jefferson Performing Arts Society (JPAS)
Founded in 1978 by Dennis G. Assaf and Hannah Cunningham, Jefferson Performing Arts Society is a non-profit professional arts organization whose mission is to promote arts performance, training and outreach by providing a diverse range of quality programs that entertain, educate and enrich the cultural and economic vitality of Jefferson Parish, Greater New Orleans and the Gulf South.

JPAS focuses on three main elements:
PERFORMANCE JPAS annually provides a wide range of theatrical performances that appeal to many interests and age groups. Most seasons include a selection of grand opera, musical theater, dance and music. JPAS strives to network and partner with national and International Artists and companies to bring new and diverse programming to the Southern Region.

TRAINING JPAS provides performance and technical based training in the arts for all ages with a particular focus on young people.

OUTREACH JPAS provides arts education programming in local area schools, as well as access to professional theatrical experiences that align to classroom curricula and Louisiana Content Standards, including Arts Adventure Series, Cultural Crossroads and Stage Without A Theatre. JPAS provides performers, musicians, artistic experiences and expertise to select area events and organizations to enrich the community.
