Windowsill Pies' Lazy Summer Strawberry and Cream Pie has been named the "Official Pie of WAITRESS New Orleans." The recipe will be inserted into all WAITRESS Cookbooks sold at the Saenger Theatre during the New Orleans engagement. Mini versions of the pie are sold at the Whole Foods on Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie.

Broadway in New Orleans, along with the hit Broadway show WAITRESS, invited local bakeries to submit their most whimsical pie recipes to be considered the "Official Pie of WAITRESS New Orleans." Finalists Gambino's Bakery, Haydel's Bakery and Windowsill Pies presented their pies to chefs from the New Orleans School of Cooking. Chefs Ricardo Fredericks, Anne Leonhard and Sarah Wood tasted, judged and selected Windowsill Pies' Lazy Summer Strawberry and Cream Pie as the winner.

"We are thrilled to have won and honored to have been in the company of two long standing New Orleans baking greats: Gambino's and Haydel's," said Marielle Dupré and Nicole Eiden, owners of Windowsill Pies. "We are excited that more New Orleanians will learn about us before the opening of our retail shop."

Pies are the key ingredient to the storytelling of WAITRESS. Inspired by Adrienne Shelly's beloved film, WAITRESS tells the story of Jenna - a waitress and expert pie maker, Jenna dreams of a way out of her small town and loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town's new doctor may offer her a chance at a fresh start, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes for happiness. But Jenna must summon the strength and courage to rebuild her own life.

Presented by the New Orleans Theatre Association, WAITRESS will play at the Saenger Theatre for a limited one-week engagement June 12-17, 2018 and will close out the East Jefferson General Hospital Broadway in New Orleans 2017-2018 season. Tickets for WAITRESS start at $30.25 and will be available at the Saenger Theatre Box Office (1111 Canal St., New Orleans, Louisiana, 70116), BroadwayInNewOrleans.com, all Ticketmaster outlets and by phone at (800) 982-2787. Group sales are offered for groups of 10 or more and will be available by calling (504) 287-0372.

The Saenger Theatre reopened in the fall of 2013, authentically restored to the finest level of detail, with state-of-the-art technological improvements and updated first-class amenities. The theatre hosts a wide variety of performing arts attractions including live theater, comedy shows and musical acts. The Saenger Theatre is located at the corner of Canal and North Rampart streets in downtown New Orleans and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
